SIBU (Aug 19, 2013): The High Court here today convicted an 18-year-old teenager of four murder charges under Section 302 and one attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Judge Supang Lian deferred sentencing tentatively to September 23 in view of the fact that the accused was under 18 when he committed the crimes.

She ordered for his probation report, mitigation, public prosecutor's submission and an impact statement from the victims family, if any, to be submitted within a month from today.

Supang said the youth had chosen to remain silent on the evidence adduced during his defence trial and the prosecution too had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The youth was found guilty of causing the death of businessman Ling Tong Hock, 36, his 76-year-old mother Leong Nyuk Lan and his two children David Ling Chei Qi, 10 and Amy Ling Zi Jiun, seven, in their house at RTM Road about 7am on Jan 3, 2012.

He was further found guilty of the attempted murder of the businessman's son Kelvin Ling Chie You, eight, on the same day, place and time.

The youth, the victims' neighbour, was defended by Darel Ling Huang Hui while deputy public prosecutor Musli Ab.Hamid appeared for the prosecution. – Bernama
