Lowering salaries sends the wrong signal. Singaporeans will perceive that being a minister is a thankless task and it will be even harder to attract talent.

Singaporeans are being penny wise, pound foolish. The next time something major breaks down, don't expect the govt to step up after being slapped in the face with a pay cut.

That's ok.

We'll get to learn what is meant by a dose of incompetent government right here in S'pore, not in London, Manila, Sydney, Auckland Ottawa, Paris or Washington DC.

Lower salaries, but variable bonus subject to KPIs.

1. Publish KPIs and measurements subject to public scrutiny.
2. Results and collation of results to be publish subject to public scrutiny.

If high bonus given when KPIs and results collation are muddled, then let the public decide.

Maybe Sinkies would finally like to learn to cope with problems themselves than complaining to highly-paid, ineffective and clueless individuals. Maybe they are finally understanding that some problems simply cannot and should not be solved by throwing money at them.

We had been paying the Ministers out-of-the-world salaries but look what had they achieved? The floods and MRT incidents demonstrate amply that they stepping in has not resolve anything except to put the blame on others that they had to retract later. What the people is asking for is that they be paid what they are worth. So the salary cut is the right thing to do. In fact, if u had been following the reactions of the people following the announcement in the salary cuts, u would have easily concluded that majority of S'poreans are still dissatisfied with the proposed cut as they are not deep enough since in absolute terms, these useless Ministers would still be earning much more than their counterparts in other countries who though are having much much greater responsibilities and producing better results are paid a fraction of what our band of useless bums in the cabinet.

If the performance of ministers was measured based on the number of natural disasters and train accidents during their tenure, the whole Australian cabinet would either be earning next to nothing or should have been thrown out of office many times over.

Australia floods annually. It also burns every year plus the number of train accidents actually has a wiki page dedicated to the subject!

For god's sake get yourself a sense of perspective. You talk as if you're absolutely perfect in every way.

ur being disingenuous; obviously the various ministries have screwed up way beyond just the recent floodings. from the lack of hospital beds to the lack of affordable housing to the overcrowding of our transport systems. what's the use of paying astronomical salaries for ministers who cannot perform? when a public figure is paid 40-50 times the median wage, the people have every right to expect 'perfection' from them. their old economic policy of rising tides lifts all boats is kaput and morally bankrupt. yet Gerald Ee's committee still refuses to abandon the GDP formula. what a sorry bunch of old farts.

einstein is a talent ? yes, but only in the field that he specialised in.
shakespeare is a talent ? yes , only as a poet and playwright.
