In this case, this is chap that worked hard and did not do well in his O levels. This is pure hard work plus the parents mentoring him that got him his PHD. Not naturally bright.

People who do not do well in school fall into many categories - did not apply themselves, working in parents stall, distraction, home not conducive, dysfunctional family, mischievious etc. These are naturally bright kids who eventually mature and apply themselves.

The point that I making is that many kids in gifted programme like the boy and the girl that are mentored are conditioned from young by eager parents. Their intelligence is no different to the top 10 percentile. They can complete puzzles, mathematical problrms etc much better than the peers as they have been trained by their parents to apply themselves.

Parents like their kids to succeed. Some take it to an extreme level.

u really cannot judge someone based on his O level and A level grades. my former mentor fuck up his A level very badly had to appeal 3 times before he can get in. but he do damn well in his uni, graduate with 2nd upper and continued to do his phd under Astar scholarship.

to be a PI as you said in NUS/NUH, during his graduates and post graduate days he must be god damn fucking good pushing lots of paper out. OR....he is just one of the lucky sperm with rich and FUCKING powerful connections to the Lees.

Those well educated towkays I speak of, had the balls and presence of mind to leave high paying jobs and strike out on their own. They know better than anyone else that there is no such thing as an iron rice bowl and high pay ain't gonna last forever.
