By your definition, there will be no poor and destititute in the world, and like old man Lee, there are no beggars in SG. There are 101 reasons why he is unable to pay up; abandoned by kids, with old ailments, injured in previous work (especially if it's spine) etc etc... If you are having a good life and earning a good income, well and good for you but there are indeed people who are poor, too sick to work and somehow lost the ability to earn an income to feed themselves.
The failure of our ministers to see and address and understand that there are indeed people in SG who are unable to afford the high costs of living, have to keep worry about where the next meal is coming from and how it is indeed easier to die than fall sick etc. Do not get brain-washed and think that all who are lesser beings are the result of their own laziness and make you into believing that social welfare is evil/no good. You may be right and that the old man is indeed a useless fuck, preferring to live on handouts rather than doing an honest day's job, but that does not mean all are like that, all human would prefer to live with dignity. In more ways than one, locking in or out the old man done by the Govt is more wrong than right.
