Choosing to believe the smarty pants could be an option but a seriously wrong one. Without a choice, you only have smarty pants planning your whole life for you.

Most people cannot see further than the tip of their nose. Most people look at things that affect them directly now. They cannot look beyond the present, at their own future, the future of their children and grandchildren. As long as it is only that far they can look, the Govt can always find ways to make them seem OK.

Take CPF for instance. If you are led to think that your CPF is there waiting for you, so even you are able to touch only a little of it, you are not too worried that your CPF might actually not be there but in some investment somewhere. That is despite you hearing that the Singapore sovereign funds suffered heavy losses during the financial crisis.

we only have two party choices in the u.s. in sg, there are at least half a dozen party choices. sg is truly democratic. :p

The problem with most Sinkies isn't lack of choice or foresight. It's the lack of courage to exercise the options that are before them.

there are 3rd parties such as libertarian, american independent, peace and freedom and the green party, but their numbers have shrunk and members migrated to the main two that they are on the ballot in name only. in fact, on my sample ballot, they are only contesting for offices of the president and vice-president and nothing else. combined they may get 3% of all votes. aside from benefitting from federal funding (free money from taxpayers) to join the presidential election, and instead of using the cash for campaigning they may as well use it for an orgy in vegas. orgy includes jill stein, thomas hoefling, gary johnson and roseanne barr. yes, roseanne is running for prez!
