National Wages Council seeks public feedback on wage guidelines

The National Wages Council (NWC) is meeting over the next two months to consider wage guidelines for this year.

The 36-member council, headed by National University of Singapore professor Lim Pin, is seeking feedback from the public and relevant stakeholders.

These views will influence the council's decision-making process.

The NWC, which consists of representatives from employers, unions and the Government, will consider factors such as Singapore's economic performance as well as the global, regional and local economic outlook in its deliberations.

It will also look at Singapore's competitiveness, labour market conditions, inflation and productivity.

The NWC's guidelines are not mandatory but most companies follow them.

Views should be sent to the council by April 13. Channel NewsAsia

Sorry! Didn't read carefully. Anyway, wages should be determined by the employee's experience and expertise. The network that person has also counts. All these are difficult to set a figure to it.

they review the ' big picture' of the economic landscape in the world in general and project how sinkiepoor can be affected. Then they kiasuly pad this

and that and then come out with some figures. Then they give a final kiasu push on those figures downwards and finally make their recommendations.

The public and private sector will digest these figures and make whatever thoughts on these and then adjust your salary accordingly.

I dont think i am 100% correct but i think its roughly like this.

Why? Most civil servants (not the Admistrative Scheme) pay is lower than the private sector. Not pegged to the top 8 %...
