Hari Raya Green Packet Giving - is this HARAM?

Just curious, did the Quran condone this practice of giving green packets during Hari Raya? How did this practice started and where did this practice come from? I really hope does not come from the pigs eating Chinese of giving red packets during CNY.

This is a chinese tradition malays copied. Other muslim counyries do not have such gift.
