Harder to get a maid than to get a Credit Card

Pay others peanuts to maximize the profit, using cheap labor has always been Sinkapore's successful model until recent years... As people get clever!

Sam ask this question before

All U idiots talk about minimum wage, are you willing to pay minimum wage for your maids as well?

8am: wash clothes

9am: bbbj the cheekopek uncle/relative living with the family

10am: mop floor, do housework

12 noon: prepare lunch

1pm: fetch the kids back from school

2pm: continue to do housework

4pm: bbbj the eldest son when he comes back from poly.

5pm: Wheel the old man out for a walk.

My ex-colleague used to have an Indon maid. After several months, he made his move and managed to bonk his maid while his wife was at work. Working shifts come in handy when spouse work office hours. This took place even when my friend's mum was at home, sleeping.

Looking at that schedule, the maid is a wife surrogate.

The biological mother is nothing more than a working unit. If you remove her from the equation the biggest impact to the family will be the lost income.

Sporeans are using maids to fill a need which other 1st world gov'ts are providing their citizens. Sporeans are being short changed by the PAP because of the taxes we pay we get very, very,...little. Whereas In Australia people don't need to rely on maids because the gov't provides many of these services or subsidize these services.

And what exactly are these services you speak of? Pray tell.

And how does the older generation afford with just one income before? When there was no need for maids etc? If you need a maid to maintain your home, doesn't it highlight there is something wrong?

Maid pay so low. If willing to up salary to min $600 some will jump ship.
Is salary. Now Indon economy up quite easy to get job in their own country salary about SG$300~$400 or more.
Why do they want to come sg. Just use brain to think!!

The Indonesian Government wants the employer to bear all the maid cost in getting here & all the cost maid have to bear while in SINgapore, plus $600 a month ( average now $480 to $500), 2 days off a month.

Same with the Philippine embassy, the employer have to bear the maid processing costs in Manila, OWWA, POEA & training cost TESDA plus the airfare and any out of pocket expenses maid incurred in Philippines, they want an accreditor to guarantee the loan plus recommended $600 or must pay, & stated in the contract plus day off.

How to F#$@k & have children, if one cannot afford the costs....you see these SEA countries fight for a minimum salary for their people (workers), what is our government doing for our own?? they have many NGO's looking after them, we?

Of course, many of us, not in the maids category or fear they will take away our jobs, but many of us are affected by the uncontrolled numbers of Foreign Workers who "steal" our jobs ! We are expected to be productive at work & at home, how to have children, when costs are rising, rising, & jobs are slipping, slipping away...how not to get xenophobia?

Whereas In Australia people don't need to rely on maids because the gov't provides many of these services or subsidize these services.

Sporeans are already paying more than $600 for a maid. Don't forget that the PAP gets a cut of the maid salary:rolleyes:

I don't think most employers would mind paying the FWL if at the end of the 2 years contract, a portion of it is given to the domestic helpers for her services and contribution to the society. But did it ever happen? NOPE. Will it ever happen? NO of course under the current blood sucking regime!

Why must the papaya government take a cut?

Lots of problem would be reduced if there is an incentive for the domestic helper to complete her 2 years contract. Why is it not happening? Ask those million $$ paid leeches.

Australia provide robot maids? If it's subsidy for childcare centers, it's subsidized in SG as well. Please get your facts right

Before you start telling people to get their facts right, you better get yours in place.

http://www.fairwork.gov.au/leave/parental-leave/pages/paid-parental-leave.aspx

"The scheme provides a maximum of 18 weeks pay at the National Minimum Wage. This applies to eligible primary carers of newborn or adopted children. The payments are made by the Government to the employer, who then pays it to the employee."

"From 1 January 2013, there will also be an entitlement to Dad and Partner Pay. This is up to 2 weeks at the National Minimum Wage for working dads or partners (including same-sex partners). These payments will be made by the Government directly into the employees bank account once their claim has been finalised. Claims for Dad and Partner Pay can be made from 1 October 2012 for babies born or adopted on or after 1 January 2013."

http://www.fairwork.gov.au/leave/pa...entitled-to-parental-leave/pages/default.aspx

"The minimum entitlement for parental leave is 12 months unpaid. This entitlement comes from the National Employment Standards and applies to all employees in Australia, even if they’re not covered by the National workplace relations system."

Childcare center take in infant from 6 months onwards.

Do you have the same in Singapore? Please get your facts right.

I heard that it is quite tough to get a maid now:eek:

The main source of maids is from Indonesia. The gov't of indonesia is making alot of noise about maid abuse.
In Spore if you want a maid you need to make an income of at least $30,000 a year to qualify. Even if you qualify, you have to take a 3 day course before you can apply for a maid:eek:

Spore must be the only place in the world where you need a license to operate a maid :D

The true fact is that it is really NOT difficult to hire a maid anytime availiable from a ship load of maids willing to jump ship as transfer maids.

The true fact is you are a Sinkie who has NO REGULAR income above $30,000 and even with such a pathetic qualifying income, the maid might suffer a risk of starving to death, with the high prices of food here.

So johnny, go find a good and stable job that can first pay you more than 30k buckaroo before even thinking of wanting to hire a maid.

O.K?:D

when i got my first credit card just after NS, that time, it was hard to get one.

Now tom dick and harry can get a credit card.

Sporeans are already paying more than $600 for a maid. Don't forget that the PAP gets a cut of the maid salary:rolleyes:

The govt takes a cut of everything - maid's salary, COE, ERP, GST (which is going to increase soon). No wonder there is always a budget surplus at the end of the day despite $2,200 foldable bikes and sex-offering sales women.

$600 min net salary not included OT or levy. That would be fair.
If not willing to pay dont KPKB hard to get maid.
Actually quite easy to get maid just ask around which maid is good and when their contract expired ask them to jump ship offer higher pay at least $100 from previous employer.
Is worth it pay higher because they will know what to do and no need to tell/train them what to do.

This is trying to help a FTW to sabo a fellow Singaporean and raise the cost of this kind of service without the govt relenting on its maid levy policy. This, despite the fact that the affordability of a maid is next to the cost and early availability of a matrimonial home for a newly married couple the most important reason why Singaporeans are not reproducing sufficiently to replenish themselves.

And how does the older generation afford with just one income before? When there was no need for maids etc? If you need a maid to maintain your home, doesn't it highlight there is something wrong?

It's something like owning a car. For some families they can't really afford one but die, die they still insist in owning a weekend car .
The same with maids sometimes I sometimes even see families with 2 or more maids:eek: However to be fair the population of Spore is aging & many need the assistance of maids because they are now old & feeble.

While I was in the hospital it was common to see the family of the patients having their maids look after a sick relative. It was common to see multiple maids because the sons & daughters all had maids:)

Sporeans are being screwed by the requirement of a maid levy, training, etc This represents a tax on the young & getting old:( As the maids are used to look after these 2 groups
It's the role of a good gov't to look after the citizens & not selfishly look at increasing their own salaries:rolleyes:

And you sabotage other. If she run away from the current employer she might do the same run away from you too.

Good observation. Next time she becomes pro-active and go after potential employers.

Sam ask this question before

Definitely not. All this FT talk is about how to benefit our own citizens, not to act as saviour of the world, far from it. If we cannot save ourselves, we cannot be bothered with saving others.

Anyway, the maid's ROI is calculated in a very different way from ours. For most people at and below the median income, every cent is used in one way or another. That is why all those who talk a lot do not want to come back.

The maid's pay on the other hand can practically be totally remitted home or a good percentage of it. This money that is remitted must be looked at on a PPP basis in the maid's home country and suddenly the amount of pay shoots up 4 to 5 times. All maids know how to perform this calculation. The Indonesian and Filipino authorities also know this calculation. When they asked for increase in maid's salary, it might not be that it was not enough but more would be better so that the authorities could enrich themselves more through the maid agencies.

Most Sinkies don't know this ROI calculation including the great Dr Chee. That is why everyone is asking for minimum wage to be applied universally. In my opinion there should be a minimum salary for each trade and profession but not a universal minimum wage.

Some observations here:-
1) Are you at home the whole day? Are you sure that's what the maid does and not trying to court the workman doing renovation work next door?
2) The typical Sinkie family that you described seemed to be a large multi-member extended family. If that is the case LHL has no sleepless nights and the Old Man can continue with his Stop at two.
3) If Sir comes knocking at 12 am for a massage, madam can also come in for a rubba rubba.

Are you sure it was an ex-colleague and not someone with the initials of G.D.?
