In Spore if you want a maid you need to make an income of at least $30,000 a year to qualify. Even if you qualify, you have to take a 3 day course before you can apply for a maid

This is Spore, maids have become a lynch pin of our economy. If it wasn't for maids, the majority of mums currently working would have to stay home. People would have to walk their own dogs, wash their own cars, look after their own parents, etc.

Sporeans are using maids to fill a need which other 1st world gov'ts are providing their citizens. Sporeans are being short changed by the PAP because of the taxes we pay we get very, very,...little. Whereas In Australia people don't need to rely on maids because the gov't provides many of these services or subsidize these services.


Sporeans are already paying more than $600 for a maid. Don't forget that the PAP gets a cut of the maid salary

I don't have a maid that's why when I heard of some of requirements I was surprised. It seems that hiring a maid is more difficult then if one was hiring a foreigner to replace a Sporean.

Maid poaching sounds like a good idea unfortunately it's difficult to ID the good maids & employers keep a short leash on their indonesian maids. I heard that filipino maids are not a good option because they can be more sneaky than indo maids. They also don't seem to be as caring, those implicated in the old folks home abuse case were filipino.

The recent abuse case in a retirement home gives us a peek at what may be going on in these old age homes. You are going to have such abuses especially when the staff are poorly paid.

Only with this cert, can you proceed with all the paper work required to get a maid.

It's supposedly to avoid marital problems.

I think there is also an age restriction on single males who can have maids

One has to wonder about the PAP's dirty mind. I don't think Spore husbands any worse than other ASEAN husbands. It's just that many Sporean girls are busy working & not looking after their wifely duties:p

It is true that you need to pass some kind of certification course before you can even think of hiring a maid. As Sporeans we are all used to jumping hoops for the PAP.

You don't need to go out and get credit cards. The banks will proactively shove credit cards into your face.
