Veteran Hong Kong diva Jenny Tseng has finally broken her silence on a shocking secret she kept hidden for over 25 years—the identity of her daughter Melody's father.
Speaking to TV host Yu Mei-ren during a recent telly interview in Taiwan, the evergreen star put an end to years of speculation, revealing her baby's daddy to be her dear departed husband Alexander Fu Sheng, a popular martial arts star who died in a car accident in 1983 at age 29—four years before Melody was born.
"He [the father] is Sheng Chai," said the Ocean Flower singer, 59, referring to his famous nickname. Four years after the actor's death, Jenny gave birth to their daughter. How? Well, the child was conceived using Alexander's frozen semen.
Since the first sperm bank was set up in Hong Kong in the early 1980s, it's been common practise for kung fu stars to preserve their semen, worrying that they could be left impotent from filming accidents. Jenny's definitely grateful that her late husband did it.
"When he suddenly passed away, I couldn't take it and even tried to take my own life. Luckily I was saved. ... I needed a child, especially a daughter, badly. I'm grateful that I finally got my wish. It was because of Melody that I had the courage to live on," she said a few years ago on another TV show.
Alexander Cheung Fu-Sheng was born to a prominent Hong Kong businessman. He started acting in 1971, making a cameo in The Fourteen Amazons and becoming a major star for the Shaw Brothers studio after finding fame in Heroes Two in 1973. He made more than 30 movies before he passed away.
Jenny's career has spanned over four decades and over 100 albums. She and Alexander were married in 1977.
