What I am going to say next will not be pretty, but it’s very real and is happening right now. I believe you have heard about the devastations typhoon Haiyan have caused to the city of Tacloban, Philippines.
I didn’t want you to see this but it’s my obligation to let you know how desperate the situation is, in Tacloban right now.
Watch this CNN video and you will know what i mean…
Already one of the poorest regions in the country, the typhoon made it worse by leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Over 10,000 people are either killed or missing (the numbers are rising everyday) and more than 600,000 are left homeless.
Bodies of the dead are placed at the side of the road, some were left where they were…to rot.
Food and water are almost non-existent, hospitals overflowing with injured survivors, medical supplies are scarce, looting is happening everywhere in the city.
As one survivor put it: “It’s worse than hell!”.
In the comforts of our home, we watched the tragedy unfold. Yes, we pray for them... yes we pity them... but you know what?
They don’t need our pity. They need help! What they really need are basic essentials such as food, water, shelter… they just want to survive just like you.
Just like you, they are humans too.
Just like you, they have families too.
Right now, they need food, water and shelter.
Right now, they could use some assistance to give them the chance to rebuild their homes, families and cities.
So, we, the volunteers at Learn-A-Thon 2013 are committed to do just that.
