Haircut boy's mother responds, says she's disappointed case highlighted

Do read my very first sentence. The teacher is at fault and I am sure that she would have been disciplined. She had no business do what she did.

The mother on the hand made an absolute fool of herself. She probably thought like in the past, that a PAP minister would go for the votes which is the bigger pie than support his own teachers.

Honestly what has $60 haircut and her ability to afford it has anything to do with this. Do we condone the act if the boy comes from a poor background. No we don't. This imbecile also did not realise that going to the press is a double aged sword. It backfired. She probably has very little between her ears.

As I said poorly raised.

If you as it seems, allows the teacher to overact then why are you at the same time disallowing a mother to do so likewise?

This Heng SK guy is protecting the teacher just to score points for himself and his PAPzi masters. It's so obvious and yet you and your sort fail to see the obvious and instead show your inability to discern right from wrong.

School is not a prison. Values should be inculcated for all and not just a perpetrator. What do you have to say about the student being hauled and punished shortly before an exam? You all belong in a police state. You are ripe pickings.

Why do you say that I forgot who was first that broke a rule? You assume too much in your policed-state of mind. That the child was punished is a good thing. The issue is how, by whom. and when the punishment was meted out. And let us not forget the juiciest part which is the minister coming on board to put down the family while essentially encouraging such actions from teachers in general.

You should also take note that the child was wronged and it is rightfully so that the mother takes action on the teacher. I am disappointed that you did not encourage the teacher whacking the mother or cutting her hair or doing something sinister to the mother since it was the mother too that did not listen to the teacher.

it is good you clarify you support the child's punishment. i agree the method in which it was carried out was inappropriate, hence the mother should take action if she can be bothered to. she can easily consult a lawyer to escalate the matter further. if she can afford $60 for a kid's cut, then a couple of $1000s for a private summons should be chicken feed for her.

the teacher has no authority over the mother. but the teacher as an agent for the school which the student is a member of, has authority to act over the student. whether she acted in breach of her authority, is dependent on the rules of the school.

you are right; schools shouldn't be prisons. but every institution will have rules that reflect the norms of society. you will have to change society to change the schools.

it was right of him to protect the teacher. its increasingly difficult of teachers to do their jobs with all the brats and over protective parents these days. however, he should have also made it clear that he does not condone the actions of the teacher. he is a political new comer and has not been conditioned to say the right things.

I just started having fun why settle down so fast? Nice girls my age would have been married by now. The remaining are the leftovers, problem or havoc ones. We all know these are just good as "snack" and cannot be taken as proper "meal".

Must test drive many "cars" then you will know what type suits you...if not just take taxi all the way.

ahhh ok ok....with so many chio mei meis after you since you slimmed down i thought that by now you would have gotten hitched.

His job is not to protect the teachers! Whatever gave you that idea? Even if you state that as a fact that only you believe to be true then why is it not also his job that he protects students at MOE schools to not only ensure that they receive proper lifelong education which includes ethics and morals and fair play and not be a victim to physical nor psychological punishments? Where and how you draw the line on how the minister of MOE should conduct his job is beyond me. To be clear with you, the teachers have their head of departments, disciplinary masters, vice principal and principal at their disposal should they require help with their work.

You are typically Sinkified by the PAPzis to speak up for fascist ideals and perpetrators. It should dawn on you soon if you have a chance to break free from your 45 years of PAPzi indoctrination.

You obviously haven't learnt enough that the PAPzis are capable of twisting stories to suit their needs! Unlike you and many others here I would rather assume that either she was taken out of context or that she mentioned other things that would have been favourable to her as a caring mother. You do know that the entirety of her interview was not published and that pin point negative remarks were make against her. To be fair, the report on her was one-sided and unfair and it was made in one of the world's worst offenders against respectful and respected journalism.

Only those that think they have been raised well will fall as they plunder and well themselves in their elusive non-existent pride.

i said it was RIGHT of him to protect the teachers. did i insinuate anything more than that? your own biases cloud your perception of others as you project your own thoughts and fears and hopes onto others.

have you ever been a teacher at an MOE school? have you considered a stint as a relief teacher at a school near you?

edit: as to your point on teaching "ethics and morals and fair play and not be a victim to physical nor psychological punishments" - that was never the role of school when i was growing up. all those skills were learnt from parents, siblings and friends on school bus. i hardly think lessons on Mr Wally qualified as a serious attempt at teaching morals.
