Reclamation work at 2nd Link only involves 49 acres, no EIA report needed
Protected June 24th, 2014 | Author: Online Press

(June 23) — Reclamation works under the ‘Forest City’ project, that is feared by Singapore to have a possible impact on the island republic, does not require the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report as the area reclaimed is not more than 50 acres.

According to the Johor Director of the Department of Environment (DOE) Mokhtar Abdul Majid, currently reclamation works at the Johor Straits, near the Gelang Patah Second Link, only involved an area measuring 49 acres.

“As the area reclaimed is not more than 50 acres, it does not require the EIA report,” he told Bernama today when asked on the sea reclamation works that drew concern from the Singapore government.

Reclaim 49.9 acres which does not require a report. When that's done add another 49.9 acres which does not require a report either. :p

I used the same trick to get rid of a protected native tree from my yard. Council rules do not allow the trimming of more than ⅓ of the height of protected tree. I trimmed ⅓ of the tree in 2007, another in 2008 and a further ⅓ in 2009. It died soon after.

If I'd known I'd have chained myself to that innocent tree to prevent your hideous act, one loss tree is one tree too many.

Not to worry. I planted 3 useful trees to replace the useless one I disposed of.

If you stand for parliamentary election you sure will have my vote. When you're an MP you can help more poor people and while you're there please legalize establishments like Poseidon it will surely go a long way to help the poor. Think about it.

Well done Johore! Sinkie MIW must be fuming...sabotage and full MSM assault on car jacking city in pipeline.

The curious case of how an erstwhile*Prime Minister, President and Deputy Prime Minister traversed the physical*space between the 200 meters radius and the*polling station was*subsequently determined by Attorney General Chan Sek Keong who claimed*it didn’t happen. It was all in our imagination: a case of mass*hallucination. In his infinite wisdom he declared: “Plainly, a*person inside a*polling station cannot be said to be within a radius*of 200 metres of*a polling station

Ops... No shit to stir liao...

JOHOR BARU - Malaysia's Department of Environment has issued a temporary stop-work order against all coastal land reclamation works to build a man-made island in the Strait of Johor, the New Straits Times reported on Tuesday.

The stop-work order follows a decision to study in greater detail the environmental impact of the project, the newspaper reported, quoting a state government official.

"The order came about a week ago and all land reclamation works in the area have been suspended pending further studies on the environmental effects of the project," Johor State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ayub Rahmat told the newspaper.

The project, called Forest City, is being jointly developed by Chinese property developer Country Garden Holdings and a Johor government company Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor.

This present sultan is an astute businessman. The PAP has underestimated him and all their condescending ways of the PAP ministers with their annual hari raya pilgrimage to the palace which worked with the father but wont work with him. His father was an eccentric, I shd say more of a gila , a bit of a mad hatter and the PAP played along with his games and shenanigans and that kept the mad hatter happy and contented and the PAP made hay while the sun shone and reclaimed the northern cost of Singapore east of the causeway, all the way from seletar airport to ponggol to Tekong. Next time you flying back to Singapore take a right side window seat and if the aircraft is landing from the north at Changi you will see the extent of reclamation. Its right up to the Malaysia/Singapore boundary in the straits save for some small channels to allow ships to meander through to the Pasir Gudang Port and Sembawang Shipyard. If not for Sembawang Shipyard these channels would probably also have been either closed or made really shallow. The new sultan is now getting his just revenge. A massive multi billion petro chemical refinery centre called RAPID is being built by Pertonas at Desaru to rival Bukom. He has made massive deals with Peter Limand the Chinese. And now is his turn to reclaim right up to the border. And the clueless PAP ministers can only send paper protests to the federal government when they shd instead be trying to cultivate th johore sultan . PAP ministars superFAIL again ! PAP mist have thot son will be mad like the father so just play along. They probably did not realise that the his fathers lousy genes have been diluted y the much better genes of his English mother. So its probabaly his mothers genes which are now calling te shots. Good luck Pinky!

What a stupid council rule! And both your city council and you fail your PSLE mathematics.

there are many stupid rules and laws which have loopholes and useless numbers that can easily be circumvented. for example, the minimum wage law in california. it's a completely useless law. many small businesses circumvented the law by paying cash to workers and part-timers. that way, these hourly workers are happy because it's cash and there are no automated paychecks, and no portion of their paychecks is set aside for federal tax, state tax, fica, social security, etc. many of these workers would rather have cash just below state and federal-sanctioned minimum wages than be subjected to gov scrutiny. besides states and the fed having different minimum wage laws, we now even have counties and cities imposing their own laws. as a business owner, anyone will be totally confused with the various convoluted labor and wage laws without hiring labor, wage and tax specialists to help navigate through the maze. and that's overhead that will eat at the bottom line.

another stupid law is the need for a fishing license when you dig sands for geoduck or chip rocks for mussels. minors below 16 are exempt from needing a license, but they are limited to one bucket a visit of mussel harvesting. well, adults circumvent the law by bringing bus and van loads of children with a bucket each to harvest the mussels. since children find mussels yucky for lunch, they would rather have pizza or hamburgers. but they enjoy a day out on the watery rocks chipping away at mussels. at the end of the day, an adult with 6 children can harvest up to 30 buckets by "re-visiting" the same beach 5 times on the same day. free labor, no license, 30 buckets of mussels. not bad.
