Had to retrench a Pinoy staff once- boy did he put up a fight!

It wasn't xenophobia or racism at all. Just common sense. I thought it would quite easy for him to apply for another job in another company since he is still quite young, got basic qualifications, and isn't really earning that much!! But guess the gahment tightening measure is hitting the FT harder than I thought!

You're right ...he will land another job easily. He may have to take a paycut but he will get another job. Good work, enterprise2. We need more sinkee managers to put sinkee first.

It was restructuring season again and all managers got to 'contribute' to the total cut. As usual we start to 'cull' the average to poor performers. I also made a conscious decision to let go of FTs over local. Thought it should be ok since they r foreigners after all. There was this Pinoy guy, in his 30s, he was a average performer, wasn't hired by me, but I 'inherited' him. So I serve him the bad news and thought he would accept the decision. But to my surprise, he turned nasty and started shouting at me. Tried to calm him down but to no avail. Had to call in security for help. By this time, the whole office was watching, since the shouting and banging was so loud. In the end, we had to frog match him to the door and I had to change the notice period to immediate. Didn't expect that, thought that retrenching local would be harder, but then life is full of surprises!!

Why didn't u and and the security guards blanket party this fucker on his way out? Just bring him over to the toilet, lock the door, and beat the shit out of him. tell him that is what he gets for yelling and throwing tantrum at his singapore boss. than toss his bloody ass out on the streets. i guarantee you the word will spread like wildfire among the pinoys. they will think twice before they have their next Independence Day celebration. And that will show who is boss in this country.

They're fighting tooth and nail because of fear of not getting a next job and the employment pass. Especially the Pinoys... there may not be a second company daft enough to hire them based on their shoddy credentials. The primary motivation is fear. I have lost a few FT co-workers through retrenchment (Korean and Thai).

For Sinkies, retrenchment means a pay package, a short break, a nice farewell lunch and a new job with new experiences. No biggie, no fuss, no drama. Time to move on.

It could also be a Pinoy culture - the fear of abandonment. They don't like to let go. Lots of crying and shouting if you are breaking up with them. ;)

Pinoys are crooks ...at least the few I know.

lets hope our locals appreciate it. When times were good you couldn't believe the attitude of some of them.

The local Gen Y?? I seriously doubt it. They still think the sky the limit and the world owes them a living!! For the PMETs, yes, starting to dawn they better kuai kuai appreciate their job considering now CPF not enough for retirement and they don't have other options!!

He will easily get another job here from the connections that he already has. And then there are another few thousand waiting to come here to readymade jobs. Singaporeans and their jobs have been sold out. Even the Philippine president promised it PMET citizens jobs in Singapore for their citizens. Can you imagine this? And what does Transgender Loong do for Singaporeans?

Actually this case is nothing. I heard horror stories of top FT managers being let go. They even go to the extent to 'thrash' their company paid rented apartment..etc and leave the damages to the company to settle!!

This is no different from the PAPzis when they had 70% of votes. There is always a time for a change. It may get ugly but as you have experienced, there is nothing to stop it if you put your mind and resources to it and you have a majority to help you to do it.
