It was restructuring season again and all managers got to 'contribute' to the total cut. As usual we start to 'cull' the average to poor performers. I also made a conscious decision to let go of FTs over local. Thought it should be ok since they r foreigners after all. There was this Pinoy guy, in his 30s, he was a average performer, wasn't hired by me, but I 'inherited' him. So I serve him the bad news and thought he would accept the decision. But to my surprise, he turned nasty and started shouting at me. Tried to calm him down but to no avail. Had to call in security for help. By this time, the whole office was watching, since the shouting and banging was so loud. In the end, we had to frog match him to the door and I had to change the notice period to immediate. Didn't expect that, thought that retrenching local would be harder, but then life is full of surprises!!

I am appalled by your xenophobia and racism. Did you not realise that he is the reason why according to Shanmugam in today's papers that Singaporeans have more jobs. Did you even consider the fact that his family is dependent on him as Philippines has no CPF.

It wasn't xenophobia or racism at all. Just common sense. I thought it would quite easy for him to apply for another job in another company since he is still quite young, got basic qualifications, and isn't really earning that much!! But guess the gahment tightening measure is hitting the FT harder than I thought!

Sorry bro, just being being sarcastic and a prick on my part. Fully understand what you had to do. These are tough decision. If we we do not look after our local no one will. Certainly not the PAP govt.

I know! No worries! Just a thought. The FTs fight harder to keep their jobs than locals. Finding it harder to justify local over FTs

of course they will fight harder! ten years here and they are set for life! the question is are they better? when my aunt asked a bus driver for directions he said he didnt know. theres a talent right there

IMHO, it's not that locals don't fight hard when they are being "let go".
They knew very well that no matter how hard they fight, the management will not be rational, still turn their deaf ears and ignore them.
Not many management will look at performance to justify their laid off. They look at figures more than anything else.

If firms here are really rational enough, there won't be some many local PMETs still driving taxi today.

To be honest, as in any generalization, there r the good, bad and ugly in any barrel!

No point fighting if you knew God will always give you the best.

You knew the company is pretty screw up if they had to let people go by cutting cost.

I never look back. And I am glad!

I am amazed some people could work in the samecompany for twenty years without shooting their heads off.

Well, his welfare is not E2's problem but Aquino's?

It's like the song 'Hotel California ' ... U can never leave...!

This is why FTS are superior to natives.when its time to let FTS go,they will fight tooth and nail for the job.when its time to let sinkies go,they simply tell themselves the problem is with the company,or they are paid too little any way,or the bullshit they put up with is not worth it.

Who would u rather keep?

LOSERS I SAY.

Now you understand why the FAP Traitors need to sayang their FTrash pets? They certainly have the 'helicopter vision' to see that unlike SGs, their FTrash pets have the will and capability to topple them if they feel slighted.

They're fighting tooth and nail because of fear of not getting a next job and the employment pass. Especially the Pinoys... there may not be a second company daft enough to hire them based on their shoddy credentials. The primary motivation is fear. I have lost a few FT co-workers through retrenchment (Korean and Thai).

For Sinkies, retrenchment means a pay package, a short break, a nice farewell lunch and a new job with new experiences. No biggie, no fuss, no drama. Time to move on.

It could also be a Pinoy culture - the fear of abandonment. They don't like to let go. Lots of crying and shouting if you are breaking up with them. ;)

you did the rite thing. had you kicked out the locals, you would have reduced your quota for FT intake later and that from 20-20 helicopter vision would be bad judgment.

told you before..... be careful who you get into their skirts. next time they may perform surgery for you FOC.

Rubbish...according to failipines blog, the pinoys have a fear of abandonment cause they fear losing another relative or friend that they can borrow money from and not return and treat as a atm and tell sweet little lies to.

Give that Pinoy lahars to eat or pyroclastic flow to drink
Those will make good Pinoys from even the bad Pinoys.

lets hope our locals appreciate it. When times were good you couldn't believe the attitude of some of them.
