Canada is fussy about who they let in. They are looking for people who can contribute to the society.

The concerns they have with all immigrants including PRC immigrants is that they might be connected to organised crime or have problems fitting in,.... In Spore we are all too aware of the problems with rampant immigration: language problems, failure to blend in, crime, strain on the infra structure,......

Bound to come across these incidents. Occurs all over the world. Friends of mine who moved, none came back. One or two are now ah kong - grandpa.

The person who complained about racism did he return to Spore for good or was he just complaining & still living in Canada
I also encountered some racism in Canada. I remember sharing a room at the residence with some immature white kid from a small town but there are plenty of good Canadians. Some of these Canadians are ex-Sporeans

I have so many positive experiences that I can whole heartedly recommend that people take a serious look at Canada. I have plenty of school friends & relatives who have made the move to Canada & none have returned to Spore except for holidays.

When I had an accident in Edmonton, plenty of people came out to help me. A doctor who was living in the neighbourhood tried to hep me out. Someone called an ambulance. Another person volunteered to look after my bicycle while I was in the hospital. When I was discharged from the hospital, some of the nurses offered to help me with the groceries.

At the supermarket when people saw me with crutches they would offer to give me a ride. After I had recovered I still saw plenty of considerate behaviour. When I had a dead battery from leaving my headlights on. I would get offers from strangers to jump start my car. After a heavy snowfall strangers would offer to help push my car stuck in the snow.

A social worker who visited me at the hospital even apologised because she was really sorry she couldn't offer me financial aid because I was not a Canadian citizen

There are bound to be some individuals who hold grudge against foreigners, minorities, gays, different religions, etc. That's just the way some people are but generally Canadian society is inclusive and non-discriminatory. I find Canadian society very open. Your night class teacher's friend would be an exception, or may have some personal problems.

I understand theres a public backlash against the chinese in canada because they refuse to assimilate....they buy up homes in areas and communities that have been established for decades and start building their garish pagoda houses with lions dragons and all that kitsch....sticks out like a sore thumb and upsets longtime residents.....kinda like how the different 'skins' bug you guys here.
