印度喀拉拉特邦一個動物園周日（3日）發生奪命事故，一名男員工為一頭大象洗澡時，不慎滑倒竟遭大象一屁股坐扁，最終重傷身亡。不過有動物保護組織卻懷疑出事前該頭大象曾遭人虐待，導致牠情緒激動釀成悲劇。
40歲死者帕尼克爾（Arun Panicker）任職科特塔耶姆動物園的大象區管理員。有報道指，事發時帕尼克爾命令33歲公象Bharat Viswanathan坐下，以便為牠沖洗。不料自己突然滑倒地上，趕不及起來，大象卻照常坐上去把他壓住。
在旁的助理見狀連忙上前喝令大象站起救人，但為時已晚，帕尼克爾送院後因頭部重創不治身亡。有動物保護組織指，涉事大象較早前曾參與宗教巡遊，其後在動物園內被人強迫坐下，令牠充滿攻擊性。另有報道指大象身上有傷口，死者亦涉嫌毆打大象。

A zoo in Kerala, India, had a fatal accident on Sunday (3rd). When a male employee took a bath for an elephant, he accidentally slipped and was flattened by an elephant, and he was seriously injured. However, animal protection organizations suspected that the elephant had been abused before the accident, causing it to become a tragedy.

The 40-year-old deceased, Arun Panicker, is the elephant district administrator at the Kottayam Zoo.
