An off-duty police officer died after being hit by a car while along Upper Serangoon Road on Saturday evening (2 June).

Prasad Roka, 30, an off-duty Sergeant with the Gurkha contingent, was jogging on the pavement when a car veered onto the kerb and struck him at about 7pm that night.

He was pronounced dead 20 minutes later by paramedics, The Straits Times newspaper reported.

The 22-year-old driver of the car was arrested on the spot.

His driver’s license has been revoked and he faces charges which include a rash act causing death, said a report on Asiaone.com.

The commander of the Gurkha contingent - Assistant Commissioner of Police Ross Forman expressed his sympathies in a statement.

“I am saddened by the sudden loss of such a young officer. We will do everything possible to assist the family in this difficult time.”

Sergeant Roka leaves behind his wife and daughter.
