AN UNEMPLOYED man came into possession of a semi-automatic pistol when his friend, who was about to be arrested for drug offences, gave it to him a decade ago.

But despite the possible consequences, Low Hua Choon kept the pistol and in July last year, took the Colt M1991A1 - which contained five rounds of ammunition - on a run to sell smuggled contraband cigarettes.

These details emerged yesterday when the 41-year-old was convicted in a district court.

He faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and at least six strokes of the cane under the Arms Offences Act.

The court heard he was arrested at the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Avenue 8 on July 27 last year.

Singapore Customs officers, who intercepted Low on a cigarette delivery run, searched his lorry and found the pistol and 13 boxes (650 cartons) of contraband cigarettes. He would have been paid $30 for each box of cigarettes he delivered.

Wrong starting line for this article: what unemployed man! He is a smuggler, a delivery man n a partime gunman altogether. High Productivity!

At least he is getting himself gainfully self employed without any handouts from gov.sg

Wrong title for this thread.

It should be "Gun Collector Found in Ang Mo Kio"

He is lucky he did not fire the gun. Otherwise he will be facing the gallows.

Singapore VERY SAFE! :D:D:D

Even selling tobacco also armed. Tua-Kong 1st World!

That is the effect of WRONG STRATEGY OF GOVERNANCE, blindly dreaming that laws can restrain people in every ridiculous areas and extends.

This all resulted from PAP's SICK WAY of imposing tobacco duties and profiteering, and harshly punish people ridiculously. If they go on like this then people will be continued to be forced to take higher risk to challenge their governance. If you drove with less then 3/4 tank and they will jail you 5 years then you might carry a gun when driving with less than 3/4 tank of PAP TAXED FUEL.

These stupid childish governance made Singapore Extra Safe.

Eventually they impose Char Kway Teow tax S$3 per plate, if not paid also 5 years imprisonment, then hawkers will also carry guns to sell Char Kway Teow evading PAP's tax.

In many countries of Europe's past peasants killed tax officers sent by their kings to extort their earnings. People just tried only to live, the governmental extortions forced these people to fight.
