The auto pilot is in control. It does a better job than most pilots. The space shuttle would not have been able to land without the assistance of an auto pilot.

The autopilot and navigation systems will fly what the pilots had input preflight. It cant react to dangerous or erroneous situations inflight.

For example if some other plane came directly at you for some reason or other, then you as a pilot would take the necessary steps to avoid the

impending collision. The autopilot cant do that because it can only do what it was programmed to do but cant think and cant react to threats,

hazards and errors ( other people's errors )

TCAS provides the warnings, the pilots do the avoidance. The autopilot will do nothing to avoid.

When the warning is sounded, the stewardess wakes up the pilot and he does whatever is necessary to avoid a collision.

Very soon, aircraft will fly themselves. Pilots won't be needed anymore. It's already happening.

The technology is in place I am certain, but not the public confidence as yet. That will take some time still. So at this point in time, only pilots may occupy

the pilots' seats when the plane is in flight and at least one pilot must retain control of the aircraft at all times. And I dont mean the autopilot.

Hi bro, the investigation is ongoing. If even one of the stewardesses occupied the pilot's seat it is already dangerous. If both of them sat in the seats its

far worse. If both cabin staff were in the pilots' seats and the pilots were not even in the cockpit, then thats criminal because at that point in time no

one is in control of the aircraft. The voice recorder may yield some strong clues as to what actually happened.

Bro can a pilot invite his family members or friends to the cockpit for viewing ?

Pre 911 it was up to Company policy as to whether people could be invited to the cockpit. Now the law that disallows that bro, so it is taken out of

Maybe you should sit in an air india flight where even the stewardesses can aid the pilots to fly the plane so this means there probably is easy access for passengers to gain entry into the cockpit since you like kelings so much.

The cabin staff can come into the cockpit for specific duties eg serving meals and drinks, for special briefings and such operational matters. Pilots are not

confined to the cockpit until arrival at destination but frivolous entry and exit from the cockpit is definitely discouraged.

Entry and exit to/from the cockpit is monitored by a camera that captures the areas leading to the cockpit from a few angles to make sure there is no

tailgating when the cockpit door is opened for someone to come in , or no one is lurking nearby before the door is opened for exit.
