A suspect was purportedly seen taking the victim’s bag from the plane’s overhead compartment by the victim’s wife.
SINGAPORE – A Chinese national is due to be charged in court on Aug 10 after he allegedly stole from a passenger on board a flight from Dubai to Singapore.
The police said on Aug 9 that they were alerted on Aug 8 at 5.30am to a case of suspected theft in the business class section on board the flight.
According to preliminary investigations, while the victim was asleep, his wife saw the 25-year-old suspect purportedly take the victim’s bag from the aircraft’s overhead compartment.
The victim’s wife questioned the man, prompting him to return the bag to the overhead compartment. She then alerted the victim to the suspected theft.

It is not known which aircraft the alleged theft took place aboard. Checks by The Straits Times show that only Emirates and Singapore Airlines aircraft ply the route between Dubai International Airport and Changi Airport.
“After the aircraft landed at Changi Airport, the man was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions to officers from Airport Police Division and was subsequently arrested before he could depart for his next scheduled flight,” said the police.
If convicted, he could be jailed up to three years, fined, or both.
