A security guard became a loan-shark runner after racking up $40,000 in debts by gambling on football matches.

Ang Kuan Keat, 32, also stole letters containing credit cards from a condominium where he was working, and used the cards to buy electronic goods.

On Tuesday, he was jailed for a total of nearly five years.

Ang got into financial trouble after running up heavy losses by betting on soccer matches in October 2010.
