And the first task of the Municipal Services Office (MSO) is to look at how to cut grass better.
“MSO is looking into consolidating grass cutting services in public spaces in a more systematic, holistic manner," Minister at Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Foreign Affairs Grace Fu said.
Ms Fu also oversees the MSO.
But of all things that the office can coordinate, why the cutting of grass?
Apparently, someone complained that the grass at the Pang Sua Park Connector in Choa Chu Kang is not properly cut.
And this got Ms Fu trotting down to actually look at the grass there.
"(The person who raised the issue) felt it is sometimes a little bit strange where certain parts seem to be cut well, not the others, and also because some parts that are not cut frequently enough, it actually affected his experience of the park," Ms Fu said.
"So I think that we should take such feedback seriously, and we are looking for areas where we can systematically resolve issues rather than just do it on a case-by-case basis."
Ms Fu then went into elaborate detail on how the grass can be cut better.
"For example, if residents have feedback on the frequency of grass-cutting, this officer can actually better understand the needs and also better coordinate the services."
Ms Fu had said that, "It is ideal to have an officer from one agency really understanding the residents well."
"They would know, for example, which are the areas that are frequented and therefore require more cutting and where are the areas which are less frequented.
"They would also be able to coordinate the cutting better, so that you don't have a different set of workers coming in and inconveniencing the public."

Funny thing is when prime minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the setting up of the MSO in his National Day Rally speech this year, he said that the MSO was set up to as "one authority to coordinate all of the agencies: LTA, PUB, NParks, the whole lot, and single-mindedly focus on service delivery."
However, Ms Fu is now saying that NParks is discussing with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) on taking over the grass-cutting service.
Apparently, this is because NParks cuts the grass at the park connector but the grass adjacent to the connector, across the drain, is being cut by the SLA, and their grass cutting schedules do not match.
If so, isn't this as simple as for NParks or SLA to take the initiative to coordinate schedules or job responsibilities?
Is an office required to be set up just to mediate between job roles?
Is it necessary for a minister to run down to a park connector to talk about how grass should be cut?
It looks like when Singaporeans had pondered on the necessity of the MSO, they might not be too far off on its redundancy.
