On one hand, we hear MOE talking about how it wants our students to be diverse. Hence, we have JC schools getting students to take contrasting subjects and different activities. On the other hand, we have a programme that is supposed to "develop character" (what the heck is that?), such that a certain objective is to be met - ie schoolchildren are expected to have a "certain type of character"! And that is supposed to be achieved through ECA.
