When you become part of the government of a country, you look at the people already existing and say "What can I do to make the lives of these people better and happier?" That's the main purpose of government.

Just like an individual would do to make his life better and happier, he may earn money, spend on necessities and a little on luxuries, save a little for the future, try and improve personally and professionally if possible, perhaps get married and have kids, or perhaps remain single and lead a carefee, indepdendent life.

The government's responsibility is to try and achieve these same things for the existing people they govern. If the couple have lots of kids, great. If the single decides not to, that's fine too. If the births outnumbers deaths and the population dwindles to zero, that's the choices the people have made based on their existing circumstances and mentality.

The government's role is not about trying to ensure that your future grandchild's hypothetical restaurant has all the necesary workers, including the chefs, kitchen help, dishwashers, waiters, cleaners, supervisors, etc. Neither is it about trying to ensure that the restaurant will have enough customers to pay the high rent, salaries and other costs, as well as make a decent profit.

Just take the existing people you have and make their lives better. If they are happy and comfortable enough to procreate and the population and subsequent economic activity increases, it shows that you have done a good job. If you have to force it, you probably have not. Your future grandchild's hypothetical restaurant should not even be a consideration.

Worse still looking at the way Sinkies are reproducing themselves. If our reserves are not used by local Sinkies, guess who will enjoy the fruits of our labour in the future.

That's the main purpose of government.

bro,

more pertinent point to note: each generation of leaders really have to learn how to let go :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The 'fruits' are already being sold at half price to the third world citizens, that had flooded or ponded SINgapore. What is left for us, are the 'bottom of barrel' fruits, fruits that were premium grade had already been 'eaten' by the 'napoleans' of the 'animal farm'...hmmmm!!

This gives me an idea. Perhaps the authorities can round up all those foreigners with fake cvs and qualifications and all those who go around claiming to be fortune tellers or IT specialists whose specialty is to google.

Then gather all the bureaucrats and corporate chaps/businessmen who have made lots of money over the years, ask them nicely to give each of these foreigners a sum of money (say $20K each) to go back and stop wasting their time here.
Perhaps Mr Liew who was quoted in the msm as believing in how our society works, can start the ball rolling.

Bro, that's why I keep repeating the statement that ends with "blah blah blah", in the vain hope that one of the pap IBs will pick it up and pass it on during the next national day dinner, or some kind bro can hop over to the TP MPS and pass it on.
Since they aren't going to understand the main responsibility of government or change their values anytime soon, there is the slim vain hope that he will stop and try to get some rest instead. :o
