Only idiots will make a deal with Trump. Wall Street shunned Trump for the longest time; only the idiot Deutsche bank loaned to Trump. Maybe DB wasn't idiotic but it was channeling money Trump.

Trump is a crook and nobody wants to deal with him. For goodness sake, Trump even cheats on the golf course, blatantly too.

In Singapore you can be charged for spreading fake news like this. You're lucky the same can't happen in Ang Moh land.

Sam, truth hurts? I’m sorry that your belief of “Ang Moh is the best” is crushed. But your advice is good and it should be directed to the Americans. “Shifting sands” is indeed part and parcel of life. The 21st century will be the defining century witnessing the once mighty America hitting rock bottoms. This will be the lowest they’ve ever seen since the civil war. More and more higher bred American women are flocking to China hoping to marry a chinaman to survive the next century. The Russian women are already doing that. God bless America.

You are of course entitled to your opinions even if they are rather far fetched.

However shouting at the top of your voice from the balustrades doesn't make what you say more credible. It just makes you look stupid.

Chinese actually did not plan to wipe out google and android and try to coexist with them at his stage. However Dotard is just forcing Chinese to do it instantly.

Chinese surely can replace Intel Qualcomm Google & Android all. It is just a matter of time. Dotard is committing suicide, forcing the remaining profitable US firms to commit suicide.

China will do it within 2 years. Chinese will pay relatively small price for a great (originally unintended) profits to come in just about 2 years. Great losses will be suffered by Americans and their partners / investors.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR SMARTPHONE USERS

Google’s Android and Apple’s proprietary iOS have a stranglehold on smartphone operating systems, accounting for about 99 per cent of the global market.

On the hardware side, Huawei’s smartphone technology has come along in leaps and bounds in recent years, rocketing the company into the second largest smartphone maker in the world in terms of global shipments.

The company’s latest flagship phone — the Huawei P30 Pro — received widespread positive reviews for its standout hardware features, including from news.com.au. But analysts predict consumers will abandon Huawei for other smartphone makers if the company can only use a stripped-down version of the Android software that powers the user experience.

Some Huawei smartphone owners have reportedly been panic selling their devices with an influx turning up on Gumtree in the past 24 hours.

Huawei Australia’s director of corporate affairs, Jeremy Mitchell, has told Australians their current devices will still have the Google apps.

“We want to assure Huawei customers in Australia that the US actions involving Google will not impact consumers with a Huawei smartphone or tablet or those that are planning to buy a Huawei device in the near future from an Australian retail outlet,” he said.

“Consumers with Huawei devices will still receive security updates and be able to use Google apps. Huawei will continue to provide after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.”

HUAWEI’S PLAN B

Huawei has publicly acknowledged several times since 2012 that it has been developing its own mobile operating system as an alternative to Google’s Android OS should it be forced to need it.

“We have prepared our own operating system, if it turns out we can no longer use these systems, we will be ready and have our plan B,” Huawei’s mobile chief Richard Yu Chengdong said in an interview with German publication Die Welt in March.

That operating system is reportedly called HongMeng OS but it remains to be seen if Huawei will be forced to deploy it on the future devices it ships outside China.

Huawei phones sold in China already lack the Google Play Store, Google services and many popular third party apps, but expanding its Chinese app store alternative outside the country would come with huge challenges.

Even if Huawei is able to strike out on its own with a great operating system, it would still need to convince app developers to bring popular apps to Huawei’s own app store.

Samsung has previously tried to do this with its self-developed operating system dubbed Tizen but it completely failed to catch on, largely because it lacked the apps people wanted.

Google said basic services would still function on the Android operating system used in Huawei’s smartphones and existing smartphone owners would not lose access to its Google Play app store or security features.

In the near term, it’s very possible Huawei can rely on the open-source and bare-bones version of Android coupled with its own interface software that runs on top of Android called EMUI, formerly known as Emotion UI.

For now, “Australian consumers will be able to continue using Google services like Google Play and Gmail on their Huawei phones as they normally would,” Mr Mitchell said.

“Google Android updates will continue to be provided for Huawei EMUI and Google apps will not be affected.”

A FIGHT FOR TECH DOMINANCE

The Trump administration’s move ups the ante in a trade war between Washington and Beijing that partly reflects a struggle for global economic and technological dominance.

Huawei’s telecom infrastructure division which develops equipment to build out cable broadband and wireless mobile networks has been plagued by espionage fears held by the West.

It’s one of the world’s leading vendors for telecom equipment but relies on US components including computer chips meaning the business will need to look elsewhere.

The Australian government took the step of banning Huawei’s equipment from 5G networks being rolled out in the country but if the US ban stays in place, the pace of 5G mobile technology will likely be slow in countries relying on Chinese equipment.

Huawei’s smartphone arm has also laboured under a similar suspicion, albeit to a much lesser degree, but hadn’t really suffered until now.

Google (which has been ramping up its own smartphone efforts in recent years) could seek exemptions from the White House mandate but has not commented on whether it planned to do so.

Google may lose some licensing fees and opportunities to show ads on Huawei phones but it wouldn’t be a major financial concern for the company.

Meanwhile, other US tech companies including chipmakers such as Intel and Qualcomm have reportedly told workers they will stop supplying Huawei.

Will Google's decision to suspend business with Huawei affect your device? - Business
A composite of Huawei and Android.

Google's shock decision yesterday to suspend business operations with Huawei has sparked confusion and uncertainty among fans of the Chinese giant's devices, with many vowing to steer clear of the next generation of Huawei devices altogether.

Chinese analysts have described the moves as "barbaric", tech influencers were quick to post sentiments like "RIP Huawei outside of China" to their millions of followers, while a foreign affairs briefing in Beijing last night kicked off with a clear response that China's Government would support Huawei using "legal weapons" to defend itself.

Tech experts have since debated the lack of details around the announcement and acknowledged that while Huawei would struggle without US help, an enforced crackdown on Google software and hardware on currently-owned devices — extending to beloved apps like Gmail or even the Android OS — would be unfeasible.

But the confusion around the announcement has meant fans of Huawei's smartphones — attracted by its comparative affordability to Apple iPhones and cutting-edge features — may now think twice about keeping or buying a new Huawei device if the ban persists.

The debate has also prompted speculation as to how Australian suppliers and vendors might respond to such a situation as well as what Huawei's future without Google might look like — here's some of what we know so far:

Will Huawei devices lose accessibility to Google services?
A woman browses her smartphone as she walks by a Huawei store.

Despite initial fears that existing Huawei users could immediately lose access to downloads and updates to Google apps, Google and Android came out soon after the initial reports appearing to provide reassurance that "existing" devices would not be affected.

"We are complying with the [US Government] order and reviewing the implications," a Google spokesperson told the ABC in a statement.

"For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices."

At the same time, Android — the mobile operating system developed by Google — published a near identical statement that it was complying with US Government requirements while maintaining only that Google Play and security from Google Play Protect would continue to function on existing Huawei devices.

While the statements only referenced the functionality of Google Play — the Android's app store and security functions — in principle it means existing users should still be able to use, download and update Google's apps.

"There is always the risk that the [US State Department] … puts pressure on Google to say 'no, you actually have to block existing services', in which case there could be a concern," Alex Kidman, the tech and telco editor at comparison website Finder.com.au, told the ABC.

"Google doesn't seem inclined to go that way, and at least its initial interpretation is that it shouldn't need to do that."

Yet while Google has maintained simply that Google Play would not be affected without commenting further, late last night Huawei published a statement noting its own significant role in Android's global success while, more strikingly, providing no reassurance that existing devices would not be affected, but rather, that its owners and vendors would be supported.

"Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally," it said.

At the same time, putting speculation about Google Play's functionality on existing devices aside, it still remains unclear what access to Google future devices would have, or even whether the annual Android OS upgrade to Android Q — the next generation of Google's mobile operating system — would be impacted by the ban.

According to Kidman, a ban on such an update could force Huawei to move on to the "public version" of the Android operating system — known as Android Open Source Project (AOSP) — where access to Google apps and services are limited.

"The open source Android channel is typically a lot slower, and Google certainly wouldn't be allowed to provide the next Android Q [due to be released later] this year directly to Huawei," Kidman said.

"My interpretation is if the ban continues to that point, I can't see a way that Google will be allowed to provide that software to existing Huawei phones."
How have Huawei vendors in Australia responded?
The shock announcement from Google has also prompted questions around the world with regards to how businesses which sold or were linked to Huawei devices would deal with a potential consumer backlash due to a suspension.

"Given that phones were purchased on the basis of phones continuing to receive updates — which is no longer the case — will you be allowing people to swap phones?" one Twitter user promptly asked UK mobile network operator EE, which responded only by quoting the Google statements.

Thus far, neither Google nor Huawei have said whether future models of Huawei smartphones would be affected, or whether such bans would apply to simply yet-to-be-designed models, or more troublingly, those already being promoted and rolled out worldwide but not yet officially released to the public, like the Huawei Mate X.

Huawei has been unavailable to provide direct comment on such fears, while Google has refused to provide further details beyond its initial statement to the ABC on existing devices.

Meanwhile, many Australian vendors and businesses reached out to for comment on the suspension and potential backlashes appeared to have not been advised ahead of the public Google announcement let alone how it would deal with them.

"Optus is currently working with Huawei and Google to understand the impacts of this news to our customers," a spokesperson told the ABC in a statement.

Vodafone Australia added that while there still appeared to be no immediate impact, the company was "working with Google and Huawei to understand the implications, if any, for Vodafone Australia".

Other stores and businesses such as JB Hi-Fi and Telstra referred the ABC to different corporate headquarters or did not respond for comment.

Kidman speculated that while recently released handsets such as the Huawei P30 would likely not be affected, devices that Huawei was gearing up to sell in the near future could very likely be impacted.

"The most immediate of which would seem to be or may be — only Huawei knows for sure — is the upcoming foldable device, the Huawei Mate X," Kidman said.

'We have our Plan B': How might Huawei navigate such a ban?
A woman stands in front of a shining booth showing off mobile phone technology

Popular on ABC news:

Three traits decide whether you're a good person — do you have them?
1 of 5
Huawei has for the past few years anticipated a disruption in its ties to Google services, and has been working on contingency plans — such as building its own operating system — in case it was ever suspended from using Android.

"We have prepared our own operating system; if it turns out we can no longer use these systems [Android], we will be ready and have our Plan B," Richard Yu, chief executive of Huawei's consumer business, recently said in an interview with German publication Die Welt.

Some of this technology was already being used in products sold in China, the company has said.

However, since many popular Google apps — including Gmail, YouTube and Chrome — are already banned in China, Google's decision is expected to mostly affect future and potential Huawei customers and businesses in countries outside of China, such as Australia.

In the same interview, Mr Yu discussed the new and upcoming Huawei Mate X as a response to how the company would navigate a difficult smartphone market, highlighting the company's hopes for the devices observers say could now be significantly affected by the Google suspension.

"It's not good for Huawei — this is a huge black eye for them," Kidman said.

"It would be a big fall as well, because they're currently … the number two brand worldwide for phone sales."

In its statement last night, Huawei opened by saying how as a partner of Android, it had "worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem benefitting both users and the industry".

And after providing no assurance its current devices wouldn't be affected, it closed by pledging that Huawei would "continue to build a safe and sustainable ecosystem to provide the best experience for all users globally" — without specifying whether that future would involve Google.

Google Play App Store had been from DAY 1 TOTALLY BANNED and blocked by Great Firewall of China.

There is absolutely no issue!

Each smart phone firm all opened their own App Stores Samsung LG Oppo Xiaomi Huawei Vivo .....

There are many non-manufacturer App Stores like Baidu QQ 360 etc.

Literally hundreds.

Google from day 1 failed to have App Store monopoly.

Every Chinese Domestic model Android Phone actually Block Google Play App Store! It is not pre-installed inside. Some will even take length to prevent you to install Google Play App Store! Warning you VOID WARRANTY if you did.

My friends bought RedMi from China to use in Pee Said. Had taken great painful lengthy process to hack them to allow installation of Google Play Store etc.

Dotard is idiot if he think App Store can monopolize.

Even OS and CPU cores they cannot monopolize. Chinese had long prepared and plotted to counter and takeover from Chow Ang Moh.

Dotard is only causing the impeding change to happen SOONER!

Fucking idiot!

Of course, no issue for the Tiongs within China. But they're living behind a Great Firewall, they're accustomed to life inside a digital prison.

The Internet is so locked down, I have to use Wechat to chat with my ATB friends in China... Whatsapp doesn't work. And they have to 翻墙 to access the unfiltered Internet, which sometimes doesn't work.

But without Google's ecosystem, the overseas customers will think twice before splashing the cash for a crippled Android phone.

A silly move by Google. China has always thrive under embargo . The latest ban would only encourage Huawei to get out of their comfort zone and roll out their own OS.

Chinese govt on their part can retaliate by mandating all smart phones in china to run on Huawei OS platform . Being the largest Hp market they certainly have the bargaining chips

If China is so damn great as they say and supporters say then this Google ban will have no effect whatsoever. Huawei will just develop their own phone OS and app store.

Ren Zhengfei responded: The United States underestimated the power of Huawei 5G will not be affected!

Image source: CCTV news Photo source: CCTV News

Original title Just now, Ren Zhengfei responded! American politicians underestimate the power of Huawei, 5G will never be affected!

At 9:00 am on May 21, Ren Zhengfei was interviewed by media reporters at Huawei headquarters to respond to hot issues. Let's first take a look at what he said.

Responding to the US ban on Huawei for 90 days

The US "90-day temporary license" doesn't make much sense to us. We are ready, but we are very grateful to American companies for their contributions. Many of our consultants come from American companies such as IBM. We were controlled by US entities a year ago. The current practice of American politicians underestimates our strength.

谣 谣 German chip manufacturers stop supplying

Earlier media reports said that under the pressure of the United States, German chip manufacturer Infineon stopped supplying Huawei. In this regard, Ren Zhengfei blamed: "German chip manufacturer Infineon did not stop supplying."

About 5G

Huawei's 5G will not be affected. In terms of 5G technology, others will definitely not be able to catch up with Huawei in two or three years.

The depth and breadth of American technology is still worth learning. Many small companies are super-decisive, but we are at the forefront of our business (5G), but the overall country, we are far behind the United States.

The 5G capacity is 4G20 times, 2G 10,000 times, power consumption is reduced by 10 times, and volume is reduced by 70%. We have materials that will not corrode for decades, and these characteristics are very suitable for Europe. Europe communicates very closely with us.

Talking about the "prepared tire plan"

We purchase 50,000 sets of Qualcomm chips every year, and we have never rejected or resisted.

We will not easily narrowly exclude US chips and grow together, but if there is a supply shortage, we have a backup. In the "peace period", we are half of the US chips, and half of them are from Huawei. We cannot be isolated from the world. We can also do the same chip as the US chip, but it does not mean that we will not buy it.

About the chip

It’s not good to do chips, and companies need physicists and mathematicians. Huawei has at least 700 mathematicians, more than 800 physicists, more than 120 chemists, six or seven thousand basic research experts, more than 60,000 senior engineers and engineers. The scientists and experts we have compiled more than 15,000 basic researches are turning money into knowledge. We have more than 60,000 application talents to develop products and turn knowledge into money. We have always supported scientists outside the company to conduct scientific research and exploration.

About homegrown

Our mass production capacity is still very large, it will not cause negative growth of our company, and will not harm the development of the industry.

About Aihuawei

Our family is still using Apple mobile phones. Apple's ecology is very good. When I go abroad, my family will send them Apple computers. I can't narrowly think that I love Huawei as a mobile phone.

At present, there are two kinds of emotions for Huawei. One is that distinct patriotism supports Huawei, and the other is that Huawei has kidnapped the patriotic sentiment of the whole society. Ren Zhengfei said that his child does not love Huawei because he loves apples. Yu Chengdong always said that the boss did not promote for us. We stop them from shouting slogans and not inciting national sentiments.

About capital intervention

Huawei does not easily allow capital to come in, because the nature of capital greed will undermine the realization of our ideals.

About family

The most sorry thing about my life is my own children. I was too busy when I started a business. I had less time to communicate with them. When I was young, the company was in a dying struggle for survival. I often had little contact with children for a few months. I owe them. They are very demanding on their own. They work very hard. For example, when the younger daughter is a child, she has to dance for 15 hours every week. When she is in college, she does her homework at 2 am or even 4 or 5 o'clock.

Huawei: Ability to continue to develop and use the Android ecosystem

In response to the fact that Google Inc. will stop providing technical support for Android, China Huawei responded on the 20th that Huawei has the ability to continue to develop and use the Android ecosystem, including Huawei and Glory brand products and services including smartphones and tablets. The Chinese market is not affected. In the future, Huawei will continue to build a safe and sustainable development environment for the whole scene, providing better services to users.

Chinese Foreign Ministry: The responsibility of the US to pass on is futile.

According to reports, US President Trump said on the 17th that the United States and China actually have an agreement, but China has broken the agreement. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Hao said on the 20th that China does not know what the "agreement" the US has said, but it is certainly not an agreement that China has agreed to. The US wants to confuse the burden of audio-visual transfer, which is futile.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Wei: The 11-round economic and trade consultation between China and the United States failed to reach an agreement. The fundamental reason is that the US tried to achieve unreasonable interests through extreme pressure. This will not work from the beginning. In the case of unsuccessful attempts to trigger widespread suspicion and market turmoil in the United States and abroad, the United States wants to confuse the responsibility of audio-visual transfer, which is also futile. The sincerity and constructive attitude that China has shown in the past 11 rounds of negotiations is obvious to the international community.

According to German media reports, after years of review, the United Kingdom, Germany and the European Union have not found a significant "back door" for Huawei products, but Cisco equipment in the United States has often been found to have security vulnerabilities. Since 2013, there have been 10 "back door" incidents. Lu Hao said that China especially wants to listen to the comments of the US.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Yi: The United States has taken its own heart to the forefront of its own people. In order to gain unfair competitive advantage and smear the smuggling of other countries, it has never been able to produce decent evidence. The above findings of the European side prove Huawei's innocence, and it also exposes the illegitimate nature of the United States using state power to suppress other countries' enterprises.

Lu Hao responded to Google’s suspension of some of Huawei’s business.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Wei: We have seen the report and noticed that Google has suspended the suspension of Huawei's software and hardware transfer business and suspended the provision of related services to Huawei. The Chinese side will formally confirm the matter and further actively pay attention to the progress of the situation. At the same time, China supports Chinese companies in picking up legal weapons to defend their legitimate rights.

US bans Huawei or loses billions of dollars to US companies

On the 15th, the US government issued a restricted transaction order for companies such as Huawei. CNN recently reported that Huawei has purchased key components from dozens of US technology companies and is the world's second largest smartphone seller.

Last year, Huawei purchased about $10 billion worth of parts from about 13,000 suppliers. Of these, about $11 billion were purchased from these US technology companies, including Qualcomm, Broadcom, Microsoft and Google.

If the Trump administration bans Huawei, US companies will lose billions of dollars. Lawrence Ward, a partner at Deutsche Bank, said the US government ban would disrupt global supply chains.

US chip stocks have suffered heavy losses in recent days. Qualcomm and Broadcom collectively plunged overnight.

In the context of the recent intensification of Sino-US trade frictions, the US government's ban on Huawei has caused investors to worry about technology stocks and economic prospects, while US and chip-related stocks have fallen sharply.

STMicroelectronics plunged 8.42% overnight.

Chip giant Qualcomm plunged 5.99%, and the decline was significantly worse than the previous trading days.

The share price of another big giant, Broadcom, also plummeted 5.97%, with a huge downward gap.

Micro-core technology fell 4.47%, Micron Technology fell 3.99%, TSMC fell about 4%, and NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and other chip-related stocks fell about 3%.

The exception is that SMIC's share price in the US rose 7.97%.

In general, the recent mobilization of US stocks is still mainly from technology stocks. In particular, the US government restricts US companies from providing products and services to Huawei. The market is worried that related technology companies will suffer performance losses due to the loss of important customers, making technology stocks concentrated. The Nasdaq index is significantly weaker than the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index. The Nasdaq index fell 1.46% overnight, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell only 0.33%.

In contrast, the chip concept of the A-share market has been active recently, but at present, the relevant stocks have become more differentiated.
