he sexpected his tesla to brake automatically while in "adaptive cruise control" or some kind of "autopilot" mode, but it (obviously) didn't. and he was surprised that it neither slowed down nor braked. darwinian award for another gong cb.

Shouldn't the autonomous braking system kicked in? It works on my Toyota Highlander with Toyota safety sense 2.0.
my theory is that there's still a software glitch with tesla's autopilot ai when it involves a sizable white flat reflective surface as an object and obstruction for both its radar and cam sensors to handle. its radar sensors cover up to 169m mostly in the front while its narrow cam covers up to 269m in front and wide angle cam covers up to 69m in front. it also has a main cam that captures up to 169m in front. and then as a 3rd layer of sensors, it has ultrasonic pucks hidden within the body frame to detect motion and obstruction slightly over 6.9m for proximity detection. it seems like a flat white surface reflects both light and radar signals and interfere with both sensors and ai. we call it the "billboard effect" and the "billboard" works like a mirror for almost all frequencies of electromagnetic waves from radio waves to light waves. the same problem can occur in wintery and or blizzard conditions when snow blankets the road and surrounding environment. when the sensors are sending wrong or bad data (garbage) to the ai to process, it will just spew out garbage.

the taiwan-born engineer huang who worked for apple crashed his tesla suv into a white flat concrete freeway divider on 101 head-on without slowing down or braking while on "autopilot". somehow, the ai doesn't like or know how to deal with white reflective surfaces.

Not yet,the Shanghai factory still under construction.
It's probably a tesla copy,
it involves transfer of technology to prc, including but not limited to software development and source codes. after that you’ll see prc copies from amperes to zumwalts.

I saw this report on Taiwan news and was amazed at the stupidity of the driver. The poor truck driver was frantically trying to get him to slow down but to no avail.:biggrin:
