I have given a little pep talk to my daughter yesterday.
She is a very smart girl who has done pretty well in her school work and exams. As parents, my wife and I are very proud of her. However, when we heard her little comments on her peers who have not done as well as her and how she was subjected to jealous snubs from some of her friends, we gave a little talk to her.
What you are endowed with, like high intelligence, good looks etc, these are something you cannot change. However, you can change your ways in communicating with others. You can learn to be more empathetic with others who are different from you.
High intelligence is a fortunate gift of endowment (of course thanks to my wife and me lah!) But Wisdom, Empathy and good interpersonal relationship are something you must learn and gain on your own.
This morning lecture actually resonates with the message that I have given to my daughter and now I know why I actually bother to care and give my lecture this morning.
A reflection on this morning lecture.
There will be no Greatness without Honor.
If you do not even honor your parents, family members, friends and even strangers who stood by you during your most difficult times, helping you in whatever little ways, there will never be Greatness in you.
