THE only son of the late Dr Goh Keng Swee broke his silence yesterday as he talked about his father and the time they spent with his mother Alice Woon.
Mr Goh Kian Chee, 66, described his father as a man of integrity and said his mother was supportive of Dr Goh's political career.
He readily answered queries on his family when he met reporters, but declined to respond to some questions, such as his parents' divorce, and his relationship with his stepmother, Dr Phua Swee Liang.
His parents separated in 1986, and Dr Goh remarried five years later. Mr Goh said his 85-year-old mother remains well, but moves about with great difficulty.
She lives in a condominium in Bishan with a maid, and Mr Goh, his wife, two sons and three grandsons visit her at least once a week.
Mr Goh, who retired in 2005 as a research manager in a stockbroking firm, spoke at the Pyramid Club in Goodwood Hill where he grew up.
