CHC Confessions:
"I have known Kong and his gang since 1987. I just have this to say. Since those time spent in the 80's, I know, we know, even SH knows, KH likes to exaggerate stuff. If something is 1 cm long, he tends to make it sound like a foot long and a ton heavy, if 10 people responded in a crowd, he can say response was "overwhelming", "unexpected"...etc. He tends to dramatize A LOT in his public sermons. (Privately he's can be more direct and in-your-face)
Just look at him on stage, narrate or preach...he adds in A LOT of little details here and there, "there was a huge wave of shout", "people were freaking out"....and then you add on his facial expressions, the tone he delivers his dramatizations, all the ra-ra either makes you believe him even more or just feel a huge "turn off"...IMO, the younger ones will buy in, the older ones will brush him off....I was both becos I was young then but I started brushing him off as I enter professional worklife and adulthood. I still wonder where he gets all this traits from. Just talk normal cannot meh? (That's why I think CHC will always, always be a youth church. CHC cannot cater to adults.)
I remembered the leaders including SH raised some concerns about this before (in the 80s /90s)...things did change for awhile but also quickly the old drama king returns.
So my friends (outside and inside CHC), just know this about the man...He is not perfect, he has his owns struggles. Give him some slack. He likes big time drama, the bright lights, (anyone say HOLLYWOOD??) the glitter, the shout, the big show, everything has to be loud, make a statement and impact...etc etc...ra-ra and rawr!!! Till this day I still don't get it why a need for leader to be so drama, a truth is a truth, God's word on its own is good enough, it convict hearts, save souls and change circumstances...all that drama is just a man's addition, futile effort to make things look "WOW!!" i.e. turn man's eyes to another man or woman and away from the real power of God's word and His Son's finished work.
In fact a secure man, both in himself and God should be cool, calm, collected and unwavering. There's something Kingly about him. More so when under stress, tremendous stress, all the more you see how steady a man really is.
For the record, a part of my "growing up" process include my decision to finally leave CHC and many childhood friendships. And since then I am very happy where I am, blessed with the good word shared to me and my loved ones every week."
