Goal Post Change: Mask and Social Distancing are No Longer The Best. Vaccine is the best to protect yourself against virus

Covid-19 jabs best protection against virus despite reinfections and transmission
SINGAPORE - The latest increase in community cases is a stark warning to people not to become become complacent once they have received both vaccine jabs.

Yes, the vaccine does give significant protection, but even at best, that's 95 per cent protection against severe illness.

What this means is that out of 20 people within the country who have been fully vaccinated, one could get very sick with Covid-19 should transmission occur.

Others might get infected and be mildly sick or even have no symptoms, but there is no guarantee that they won't pass the virus on to someone else.

Furthermore, even with the same vaccine, the level of neutralising antibodies varies with individuals. Some will get higher protection than others.

And this is with reference to the basic viral strain before mutations complicate the equation.

While most of the vaccines in use are believed to give some protection against mutations, the level of protection can vary.

This is especially so for the three variants of concern, namely the B117 from the United Kingdom, the B1351 from South Africa and the P1 from Brazil. These mutated viral strains are believed to spread more easily and cause more severe illness.

And all three variants of concern have been identified here from imported Covid-19 cases. Hopefully, none has leaked into the community.

Still, vaccinations remain critical as they provide an important protective layer, experts said.

They not only reduce risk of severe illness, but also help to break the chain of transmission should there be an outbreak.

Associate Professor Hsu Liyang from the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health said: "People who are symptomatic are more likely to spread Covid-19 than those who are asymptomatic."

So if only about one in 10 people infected gets sick, there will be far fewer people spreading the disease.

Professor Ooi Eng Eong of Duke-NUS agreed that "the best way to safeguard our individual health and, at the same time, reduce the risk of outbreaks in Singapore is to have as many as possible vaccinated and thus protected from Covid-19".

This is especially so for older people with underlying medical problems that could cause them to suffer more severe illness should they get infected.

Experts also urged that safety measures such as the wearing of masks, social distancing and frequently washing or sanitising hands be kept up even as more people here get vaccinated.

As at April 18, more than 1.36 million people here have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and about 850,000 have had both.

Professor Teo Yik Ying, dean of the NUS school, said: "We have always known that the vaccination does not provide absolute protection from infection... I expect we will see a few cases of vaccine breakthrough."

He added: "This is the reason why vaccination alone is not the answer to ensuring a good control of the outbreak, and there is a need to couple that with sound public health measures like mask wearing and being conscientious about our own health status."

So why are the vaccinated folks still required to wear a mask and do social distancing?

And why are there many reports of people getting infected despite already being fully vaccinated?

Nice try, 'experts'.

There are no "experts" when it comes to Covid.

And the "experts" that parrot official lines are even less of an expert than I am.

I just rely on the data and the data shows that Covid is no big deal.

You are no expert, just full of ridiculous opinions with no merit.

The Health Ministry has identified 41 new cases of the Indian coronavirus variant in Israel, including four in people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Israel's genomic sequencing system found that 24 of those infected with the variant, which experts say may be more contagious than other variants, had returned recently from abroad. The other 17 contracted it via community transmission, including five schoolchildren. The Health Ministry and the IDF Home Front Command are carrying out widespread testing at the schools where the children are enrolled.

Twenty-one of the people who tested positive for the variant are foreign nationals. Last week, Israel banned entry to tourists from India over concerns about the variant's spread and the severe increase in cases there. As part of the new restrictions, only 300 Indian caregivers and students will be allowed to enter the country per month. They will be required to quarantine at coronavirus hotels designated for those coming from India, unless they have either recovered from or were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Israel.

All these anti-vaxxers can say whatever they want, pull out all kinds of sensational news to discourage vaccination, beat their chests and talk till they froth in the mouth. The fact remains: Vaccination protects 95% and if one should get COVID19, it reduces the severity of the disease to a mild form so people don't die or get seriously ill in hospital. The world is getting vaccinated in large numbers upwards of 3 billion. Singapore is fast approaching 70% vaccinated and herd immunity is imminent. People are wising up to moronic conspiracy theories. People are choosing science and rejecting backward-thinking losers like Sam, laksaboy and their likes. In another year's time, these small-minded losers will look even more stupid. The world is moving on. Good still triumphs over evil. Nothing changes....

Because they're fake experts. My expertise is far more valuable and consistent.
You still believe masks don't work. Even the most stupid now acknowledge they do. You are beyond stupid. Never mind vaccination, what you need is therapy at IMH.

The stupid people acknowledge that they do but the smart people know that they don't.

Data Analysis From 50 States Shows Mask Mandates Don’t Work

  • December 22, 2020

After months of being told that wearing face masks can help guard against COVID-19, an analysis has finally shown the opposite: Mask mandates do not stop the spread of the virus.

Rational Ground, a “clearinghouse of COVID-19 data trends run by a grassroots group of data analysts, computer scientists, and actuaries,”

conducted an analysis on all 50 states, dividing them between those with mask mandates and those without.

After studying the data from a 229-day period, the researchers found that states where people are told to wear masks actually have a greater spread of COVID-19.

Justin Hart, cofounder of Rational Ground, posted the results on his Twitter feed, with a breakdown of the average COVID cases in each state per 100,000 people. He also addressed common arguments that may question the accuracy of their analysis.

In a commentary on The Blaze, senior editor Daniel Horowitz said the results showing the reverse correlation between mask-wearing and COVID spikes were “remarkable.” He further explained:

“In total, in the states that had a mandate in effect, there were 9,605,256 confirmed COVID cases over 5,907 total days, an average of 27 cases per 100,000 per day. When states did not have a statewide order (which includes the states that never had them and the period of time masking states did not have the mandate in place) there were 5,781,716 cases over 5,772 total days, averaging 17 cases per 100,000 people per day.”

The bottom line is that we’re yet to see legitimate data that proves that mask mandates really are efficient in curbing the spread of COVID-19, and that boosting your immune system and maintaining proper hygiene are still the best strategies to reduce your risk of infection.

“We can turn the numbers upside down and inside out, but no matter how we examine them, there is no evidence of masks correlating with reduced spread. If anything, the opposite is true. And it sure as heck is not because of a lack of compliance,” Horowitz added.

your data is no good read capamerica better

Show me data from the ground that masks work and I'll revise my conclusions regarding the effectiveness of masks. Lab studies don't count because they don't replicate the real world.
