Go-Jek Driver Allegedly Accepted Booking & Then Took a Break Coz It's 'Too Hot'

Many of us make up crazy excuses to get out of going to work. In addition to feigning illness, we may use some of the following reasons;

“I have a family emergency”
“My car broke down” (even if you don’t have a car)
“It’s my birthday”
“My dog is depressed”
“My long-lost third cousin from Argentina passed away”
But, what about, “It’s hot AF”?

Well, one Go-Jek driver used that very excuse to get out of a scheduled ride.

Shut up and drive

According to Stomp, Go-Jek is investigating an incident where one of their drivers failed to pick up an elderly couple after telling them “the weather is too hot”.
On Saturday afternoon (3 Aug), the elderly couple booked a ride on the Go-Jek app from their office at Citilink Warehouse Complex in Pasir Panjang to their home in Seletar.

However, a while later, their driver sent a message saying he was taking a break at the Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC) because of the scorching weather.

In response, the elderly couple asked, “What do u mean?”, finding it difficult to believe what they were reading.

But the driver did not respond and remained uncontactable throughout, reported Stomp.

Justin, the one who submitted the story on behalf of the elderly couple, said, “Worst of all, the driver did not even bother to cancel the ride and the poor old couple had to cancel it so that they could book another ride.”

“What lousy service standards from this Go-Jekdriver!” he added.

Yeah, everyone would agree.

Gojek response

A Gojek spokesman released the following statement in response to a Stomp query.
“Go-Jek takes all feedback from riders seriously and are investigating this incident. Riders are encouraged to get in touch with Go-Jek’s customer care team directly via our in-app help function or hotline for assistance. This will help us to create the best user experience for both our riders and driver-partners.”

One can empathise with a taxi or private-hire car driver who needs a rest but he could have gone offline on his Go-Jek driver app or cancelled the ride at least.
Plus, using the hot weather in Singapore as an excuse to bunk work is a bit like using “It’s too cold” as an excuse to ditch work in Iceland.

Saying “My dog ate my tires” would probably be more reasonable.
