Vietnamese did not want US. Taiwanese on the other hand reminisce the days of japanese rule. Japan is Most visited country by Taiwanese.
Because Japan is near to Taiwan, just like Malaysia near to Singapore. Malaysia is also the most visted country by Sinkies.
