Geylang United goalkeeper condemns match-fixing attempt

Geylang United footballer Yazid Yasin on Saturday opened up about how he was offered a bribe last month to throw an S-League match.

He told The Sunday Times it was the first time in 16 years of being a goalkeeper in the league that he had been approached to fix a result.

Yazid turned whistleblower and is believed to have helped the authorities nab two South Korean players for attempted bribery. Kim Jae Hong,
27, and Jeon Byung Euk, 24 - both former Geylang players - were jailed on Friday.

The Football Association of Singapore has banned them from playing here and hopes to get the ban extended internationally.

Two former Geylang United players were jailed on Friday for trying to fix the football club's game against Harimau Muda on Thursday.

Jeon Byungeuk, 24, pleaded guilty to conspiring with Kim Jae Hong to bribe a player not to score in the match against the Malaysian team and was sentenced to five months in prison.

Kim, 27, pleaded guilty to conspiring with Jeon as well as to another charge of giving a $4,000 bribe to Geylang United's goalkeeper Yazid Yasin to lose the game.

He was jailed 10 months. Both are South Koreans.

Foreigners whether they are PRs or become citizens within 2 years have little attachment to this piece of soil. They want to make as much money in anyway they can. I already see new citizens from India who are now going back and renoucing their Singapore citizenship. Their sons are on dependent's pass and their daughters are either citizens or PRs. These kind of selective chosing of residential status to avoid NS and other liabilities is like going to MacDonald and picking what you want.

My only wish is to see the old man live long for him to see the country that he built disintegrate step by step by his very own eyes.

They renounce their citizenship when they retire and looking for cheap medical and other benefits. The money made in SIngpaore is very good and can go long way in their home in India.

They take your jobs and when they retire they go back home.They don't want to stay in a crowded place in a small flat. Back in India, its a big bunglow, servants and treated like a duke. They don't want to mix with locals. Too low class for them.

There are millions of FT back home waiting for a chance to get out. So what if a few hundred new citizens renounce citizenship. More new ones will just take their place unless MIW are serious about slowing down FT for PMET positions.
