WASHINGTON/BEIJING -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called out a top Chinese trade negotiator Li Chenggang as "very disrespectful" on Wednesday, amid a clash over restrictions on rare-earth imports.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has unveiled a proposal to impose tariffs as high as 500% on China if it persists in purchasing Russian oil. However, this plan has not yet been enacted as official policy.

Go ahead. Make my day.

Keep barking. I will enjoy the show as China is rendered economically irrelevant.

The port fee imposed on the Chinese vessel has backfired, triggering retaliatory measures from China that are now affecting American economic and shipping interests. These measures target U.S.-flagged, U.S.-built, U.S.-owned, or U.S.-operated vessels, as well as vessels where U.S. entities hold 25% or more equity, voting rights, or board seats. In response, Chinese vessels have avoided U.S. ports by opting to dock in Canadian ports to the north or Mexican ports to the south.

After China implemented a port fee of RMB 400 per ton on US vessel owners, these vessels are likely to remain offshore or near ports in Japan or South Korea while awaiting guidance from their Trade Ministry on how to circumvent the fee.
