Beatles star George Harrison declined a royal honour in 2000, documents reveal.
Harrison was offered an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in the Queen's New Year honours list, according to paperwork obtained by Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper.
Reports suggest Harrison would have preferred a knighthood, as was awarded to Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney in 1997.
Harrison died in 2001, having previously accepted a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal in 1965 along with his Beatles bandmates.
