$500 million (half a billion bucks) is spent on scholarships for foreigners annually; actually the figure is higher because not too few of the recipients are required to convert to sinkee citizenship (so they are not counted as foreigners any more but they are still receiving scholarships because they were foreigners).

Why can't they divert 80 percent of that money to help sinkees?

Because Sinkees are not worth it in PAP' view. More punishment for the 40%.

PSC scholar lah ....because they are given jobs that pay at least 5-figures in the first year of employment. If they don't rock the boat, they climb the ladder quickly. All in, a PSC scholar will use up at least $68 million during their lifetime.

FT scholars - like those in AStar - may makan scholarship (fees in top universities, stipend, free flight home) from first degree to post graduate that amount to probably $500k. After that, they earn peanuts for 6 years.
