LKY said the right strategy is to add more talent - to add more to the limited pool available because of our small population. What's wrong with that?
He is not calling for a subsititute, but to augment. There is always room for more talent, just as there is always more room for us to earn more. Losers tend to look at it from a very parochial view - always need the government to open up their eyes wider.
If Sporeans are given the freedom to work in countries like US, China, Australia, etc as FTs, why the same cannot be made for others to come to Singapore to seek opportunitty?
Funny that they don't see the need to get FTs to replace the MIWs in government. With the million dollar salary that they command I'm sure they can get some former "CEO" to manage the country. Why only restrict yourself to the local pool of 3 million, when you can have the best and brightest in the world to manage the country? As for the issue of foreign "influence", maybe they can be made as part of their contract?

great idea but the execution is totally fucked up.
injecting new talent in any organization, industry, economy or country is necessary for survival, growth, success and thriving beyond the limits of inbred "old" talent. however, it has to be executed extremely selectively with safeguards, checks and balance, and a proven "firewall" system. only the best should be courted, not the horde of mediocre can do's and losers who easily get a pass by the authorities in the entry process. worse, global human traffickers and fraudulent "talent" syndicates out to make a quick buck will hack the system, find vulnerabilities, exploit weaknesses and game the whole enchilada to the max for their profit. companies follow suit within limits of the law (but sometimes they infringe them) and whole industries jump on the bandwagon.
numbers do not make up for lack of talent. only a few inspired is required to change the landscape, not millions.
what is sg is doing is opening up a closed system and inviting the whole world including the shady side of the world to attack the (lack of firewall) system and penetrate it.
