KUALA LUMPUR - Pastor Ou Yang Wen Feng, who courted controversy for his same-sex marriage to his African-American partner Phineas Newborn last year, held a wedding reception in Kuala Lumpur.

China Press reported that more than 200 friends and relatives from Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong attended the Chinese wedding ceremony and reception at a hotel on Saturday.

Ou Yang said they planned to go to Vietnam for their honeymoon as "this is the only country in South-East Asia which could legalise and recognise same-sex marriage".

Ou Yang, 43, and Broadway musical producer Newborn, 49, tied the knot in New York last August.

Ou Yang, a Malaysian who now lives in the United States, said he met Newborn online and they decided to go out after six months.

He added that they did not plan to adopt as Newborn already had a 14-year-old child.
