wo new Galaxy Note 3 models could be on the way, according to sources
Before Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 launched, we heard a handful of rumors that the device would launch with cutting-edge flexible design technology. But when it was finally unveiled, the flexible display tech was nowhere in sight. Now we’re hearing gossip that it is still in the pipeline, with a limited edition Galaxy Note 3 with flexible display coming in October.
The Galaxy Note 3 did a good job of impressing people when it went on display at this year’s IFA, but we were slightly bemused by the lack of the new screen technology, which was spied during the development process by some solid sources. But this new device could be the product of that hard work, according to reports in the Korean press.
The skinny is Samsung has two more Galaxy Note 3 variants in the pipeline. One has a flexible Samsung Youm OLED 2 display and high-end metal chassis, and another is a cheaper model that will offer an LCD screen and slightly dialed-down specs. However, we’re unsure whether either of these variants will make it outside of Samsung’s home market of Korea.
A “limited edition” release of a flexible display-toting device would be a perfect testing platform for the technology. It would Samsung the opportunity to see what real-world performance is like while simultaneously testing its mass production facilities, which will have to make use of new, advanced methods to deliver the screens to the standard expected by the Korean tech giant.
If these reports are to be believed, we’re edging ever nearer to a milestone in the still young smartphone market, one that could deliver huge, lustrous displays without the need for a comically large chassis to go with it, giving users the very best of both worlds.
We’ll bring you more on this gossip as it develops, so stay tuned!
