The Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore (CRA) has imposed close to half a million in financial penalties on the two casino operators here for breaching social safeguard requirements in 2011.

In a statement on Wednesday, the CRA said that it has imposed a penalty of $357,500 on Marina Bay Sands for allowing 10 people to enter its casino without valid entry levels, two people to remain in the casino after their entry levies expired, and 19 people with exclusion orders to enter and remain in its casino.

A penalty of $140,000 was imposed on Resorts World Sentosa for allowing seven people to enter its casino without valid entry levies, six people to remain in the casino after their entry levies expired, and four people with exclusion orders to enter and remain in its casino, and two minors into its casino.

In addition, MBS was censured for wrongly displaying a winning message on one of its jackpot machines. Last October, vegetarian foodstall owner Madam Choo Hong Eng's prize should have been a car, but a message awarding her $416,742.11 in winnings flashed instead. The casino operator offered her a sum of $50,000 and a car worth $258,962 at first, but ultimately gave in and awarded her her full winnings. CRA said in its statement that it found "no deliberate intention by the operator to deceive or deprive the patron of her prize."
