HAT HAPPENS DURING A LEGAL TRIAL?
A heroin addict was imprisoned in his own flat and then beaten so severely he was left with 17 fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, a jury has been told.
Steven Brown, 39, of Truro Road in St Austell and Jodine Harvey, 37, of no fixed abode, are both on trial at Truro Crown Court accused of falsely imprisoning Vincent Rutter at his flat in Park House, St Austell, between December 28, 2017, and January 1, 2018.
The pair also stand charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent
Prosecuting barrister Mary McCarthy said: “This incident was a serious and sustained attack on a man in his own flat.
“He was injured and frightened and remained in the bedroom until December 31 when the two defendants fell asleep and Mr Rutter was able to escape to Mr Macmillan’s flat.”
Mr Rutter was treated at Royal Cornwall Hospital before being moved to Derriford due to the severity of his injuries. He remained in hospital for a month.
Both defendants denied both false imprisonment and GBH with intent. The trial, which is expected to last into early next week, continues.
