I have something to say and people here may not like it very much. It has become a very hot topic, the topic on FTs. I see many Singaporeans directing their hate at foreigners in a most irrational way.

People constantly complain about the presence of smelly banglahs and china workers here. But I need not say more as to why they NEED to be here. Who else would do all the menial labour? Singaporeans? I doubt so. After all, which sane Singaporean would be willing to slog under the hot sun the entire day with a meagre rate of 1 dollar an hour? Other than construction there are coffee shops, roadsweepers, etc. Most people you see on the MRTs, they are these people, merely taking a rare break from their work.

Another point I find contradictory would be that people saying FTs come here and they are hired because they are cheaper, and that employers are actually paying these foreigners less than they declare on the papers. If that is so, I am inclined to believe that these jobs, these low paying jobs, are merely junior level jobs and not even middle management. If that is the case, why bother competing with these foreigners for these jobs? Let them do the dirty work, why are Singaporeans vying for these low paying jobs? Why are the locals “fighting” for these jobs, when they don’t even want it? That said, if you are uneducated or cannot utilize the academic opportunities that have been given to you properly, that is your fault, and not the FTs’.

Further extrapolating from my previous point, if they are indeed earning these meagre amount of wages (comparatively lesser than that of middle level management execs and high level execs), how then, are they able to live in big condos and bungalows? That said, some Singaporeans are just unwilling to work harder, or no longer have an opportunity to find better paying jobs because they screwed up their studies or most importantly, their attitude. I don’t need to elaborate on the general attitude here, demand this, demand that, but expect to give less.

Now next point, some of you guys may say that employers favour FTs for middle and exec. level management level jobs. Why is that? I would like to think that when it comes to these important posts, costs become secondary. Companies hire based on ability and competence. Why then are some Singaporeans losing out in this area? Attitude perhaps? How we behave outside of work sometimes can be sub-consciously brought into our working practices and that may be detrimental. The behaviour would be constantly blaming others for our own shortcomings. Now just imagine that behaviour integrating into a company’s culture. Doomed.

Some monies cannot be saved. They are necessary for the company to continue making huge profits. This is only possible if competent individuals are handling the company’s affairs. So quit harping on about the costs of hiring. Unless you are talking about entry level jobs which then implies that the people taking a stand here are the uneducated bunch. If you are indeed educated, you wouldn’t need to worry about landing a good job in the mid-management level.
Look, nobody is stopping you from graduating with top class honours, nobody is stopping you from working harder, nobody is stopping you from demanding less.

Case study, my friend works in an investment firm. A total of 3 people do all the investment work. The first person, an European guy who started this firm (Singaporeans, nobody is stopping you guys from starting up your own businesses as well, but it is nobody’s fault but your own if your business fails), he pays himself 60k a month. For his right hand man, he hires a Pinoy, who earns 45k a month. He is hired based on his ability and his salary is by no means cheap. The third person is a Singaporean female. She earns 25k a month, not too shabby for a Singaporean, but why couldn’t she earn more? Because of her experience, because of her qualifications, because of her ability. I am not trying to say that Singaporeans lack the ability to do stuff. No, you guys are a talented bunch. I have a lot of Singaporean friends that I admire and respect. But they are the ones that don’t blame others for their own shortcomings but instead try to work harder to be on par with the rest. Unsurprisingly, they are doing very well.

In my opinion, most of the people who bitch about the influx of FTs, snatching away their livelihoods, are the people who cannot make it. Those who can, actually channel their energies into something more positive. And if you guys are really smart, turn adversities into opportunities. There are so many business opportunities created JUST by the influx of FTs. Then again, not everyone has good business acumen, otherwise they wouldn’t be here bitching about every aspect of their lives gone wrong caused by FTs.
I’ve said my piece, you may not like it, but there it is, out in plain sight for you guys to see and ponder about.

Bernie Madoff conned people of billions and paid himself well. Many ang mos that come here do the same
stuff on a smaller scale.

All those firms should not have been allowed to set up shop in Sinkandpoor in the first place. That is because they would not be able to survive without being able to hire non-Sinkie staff. If so, then they should fuck off to other countries and not leech by taking advantage of Sinkandpoor's infrastructure and not hiring local staff.

If the letter is indeed written by a foreigner, then it looks like foreigners can come to Sinkandpoor and stomp on Sinkies at will. And the best part is that Sinkies allow this to happen willingly.

One of the biggest culprits are the GLCs. State owned companies should be about benefiting ALL Sporeans and not only the elites, local or foreigners.
