http://www.temasekreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/imagesCARRUWJ6.jpgFrom this forum and many others, it is evident that foreign workers are not liked here. Here are some facts about Singapore i would like to share. I’ve lived here for 10 years now.
1. Singaporeans speak a stupid language called singlish. Singapore, by has the worst english standards of all countries. Bad, badder, badderest?
2. Your local universities, train you to be production line workers not thinkers. Most of the degree programs are theoretical in nature. That is why you dont produce good engineers. And for that matter, neither does India and China.
3. Singaporeans have this notion that their county is the greatest in the world. Let me put it to you, it is clearly not. If Singapore rejects foreigners, it is the locals who stand to lose the most. FT can go anywhere, they have the world. If you set restrictive policies, labour will move elsewhere followed by investment. I know chambermmaids, security guards etc do not particularly count as talent. But in countries like Canada, US etc most cashiers are pinoys, PRC, mexican etc.
4. Singapore “brands” itself as multicultural. But then it imposes race quotas, most government forms ask if you are “chinese”, “malay” or “indian”. Apartment rental adds state “all races welcome”. Companies expect you to write your age, sex etc on your resume. These things are draconian and archaic in nature. In countries like Canada you will be in violation of federal law. Pretty racist country if you ask me, well in a sense.
5. Singapore has NO fortune 500 comparable corporations. This says a lot about its people and the government. Singapore offers the most incentives of any country i know of, yet no companies (apart from a few GLCs). If you were so smart, Singapore would have 4-5 multi-billion dollar corporations like IBM, Microsoft etc. But you have NONE.
Singapore government does a very good job of marketing but soon you will realise that this place is hollow. The streets look clean, HDB flats look good etc but there are big problems on the inside. Its more like a hotel.
