Fiona, born to an Austrian father and Hong Kong mother, has an Austrian passport, but is a Singapore permanent resident who has lived here her whole life.

STOMPer Thomas feels that locals need to "buck up" to compete internationally.

The STOMPer said:

"We have an international competition right here on our shores, and guess what, an FT wins it.

"Locals need to buck up, or soon we'll have even more foreign talents 'representing' Singapore."

Last night's runner-up was Singaporean student Putri Diana Abdullah, 18.

Wan Bao Ling, who won the China finals in 2008, is one other Singaporean Elite model.

To be eligible to compete, the girls have to be living in the country that they choose to compete in. There were apparently only four Singaporeans, out of 13 finalists, competing last evening.

I notice that stunning looking Singapore Girls seldom take part in beauty pagents . The all seem to be studying overseas or on scholarships. One thing is obvious, recent scholars are no where near the Ho Ching types. The rich ones can't be bothered.

This is not only a Singpore phenomenon but rather worldwide. Looks like its better to focus on studies and use your beauty in front of an interview panel and rule the world.

So what is left is the mediocre ones where you don't even bother to look at.
