FT Journalist trying to twist her words

Please improve on your quoting to prevent misunderstanding. Its just wrong to quote title (which has FT in it) if you are NOT trying to imply the person is an FT.. should quote somewhere else.. or just delete the word FT

Just my 2 cents worth.

Your 2 cents is nonsense.

I quote the whole sentence. What's wrong with that?

If foreign or not is not the matter here, why should I especially remove "FT"?

If I had wanted to make this a foreigner issue, I would have mentioned it a few times

===EDIT===
Only those that have something to hide or have certain agenda would find issue with such a non-issue

up you back

Seriously lah, what is this reputation thing?

Did Valiant20 just up my "back"? I dunno. I mean if you find my post/comment wrong feel free to rebut me mah.

If I am someone who is obsessed with points/reputation I might commit suicide. Then how?

I didn't up you. The person who up you forgot to leave his/her nick.

We can't up/zap the same person twice in a row. Need to up/zap 20 others before we can up/zap the same person.

Nothing to hide, just defending a childhood friend here from being classified as an FT. I apologise if I appear over-zealous.. but pisses me off when people anyhow classify others as FT without proper checks..

Judging a person by name is like judging a book by its cover. Done

Oh like that ah. I see. Never mind who it was lah. May it's just a secret admirer. I still get my fair share at my age now

And you still say you have nothing to hide? So you are the secret admirer, not of me, but of that Braddell Road Brothel staff.

Is she related to M Almenour who sang in the 1968 RTS talentime with an excellent rendition of "unchained melody"?

hi there

1. apparently, the journalist did not do enough homework & verification on m&d's statement mah!
2. sub-standard reporting.
3. likewise goes to the equally useless editor of the column.
4. literally taking things at surface value!

Haha yeah I was one of the many at that age.. but got revealed at that age as well!

Took me a while to figure out the Braddell Road Brothel and the Toa Payoh Evil Girls thingy.. sorry not enuff sleep brain slow.. haha

I wonder how long this lady has been a journalist. She now finds herself in the eye of a massive storm simply because the original story was given major prominence in The Sunday Times, and even those with primary school education would have found the claims in the story unbelievable. It's a rookie mistake. Such a serious error would never have made it into any credible broadsheet newspaper anywhere else around the world, as the editor would have instantly spiked the story.

She might not have been in Peasantpore for a long time, so I'm sympathetic despite an obvious lack of professionalism in her work. Hard to understand how the editor could have missed that though.

Well somebody has to be the fall guy... foreign pawns are rather disposable because they don't stick around SG after messing up.

According to Valiant20 (in post #3) the journalist in question is a local, not an FT.

But this raises an important issue. Some years ago a journalist contacted me about a story on the local school system. I was chatting to the lady on the assumption of chatting to a fellow Sporn in terms of the fact that we know that there are stereotypes attached to certain schools. It immediately became apparent to me that she was unaware of what I was saying, I then asked her outright whether she was Spron or not. She said she wasn't. In that case I told her that I could not assist her with her story and I hung up.

If she is local, the plot thickens.

Agree that most journalists of foreign origins tend not to understand local context and stereotypes. ACS, RI, MGS etc. I consider myself fortunate not to be easily stereotyped, but it always made me feel I was outside some unspoken social circle.

Question should be how long was she away from civilization? Where in the world does a normal taxi driver earn $7k per month? I think only London and NYC come close, but one has to factor in the much higher cost of living there, as well as the higher income taxes.

I thought that Ben Nadarajan was the worst ST Journalist, when he wrote about an SAF Officer wanting to sell his sword at ebay and he was posing as a buyer in order to write the story. But this type of journalism is even at its lowest.

It shows how inept this journalist is. She should have checked with a few cabbies before conveying the impression that cabbies could earn a supposedly high income. This country has lots of fakes - pseudo journalists, pseudo psychologists, etc. They are fakes because they wouldn't be able to qualify for those positions in developed countries.
