Around 80% of retired SAF officers manage to secure civilian employment within 6 months of retirement. I guess almost all are parachuted into the PAP or senior management positions in the Civil Service and Statutory Boards. They are not left to fend for themselves by the govt because their military skills are not valued in the private sector. In other words, these former SAF officers are not able to compete on a level-playing field with civilian jobseekers.

Senior military officers may know how to manage large resources and deploy budgets. However, they do not have the same grasp of the profit motive. This is why a "global search" of a CEO for SMRT must go beyond our army camps.
