The events of the past few weeks have been almost surreal.

First the Aljunied residents were warned of possible repentence if they dared to vote for the opposition. Just before polling day and a few days after, they talked about resentment from the people, which some reasoned, ultimately led to the loss of Aljunied GRC. Now, there is even the shocking possibility of salary reduction for the ministars.

How did it come to this? The pap have never been too fazed by loss of seats in the past. They would simply either threaten to withhold goodies like upgrading or try to cajole with friendly words or little carrots. But to actually look into salary reductions for themselves? Is this simply the result of loss of votes, loss of a grc and hence a few seats or the fear of eventually losing power?

The fear of eventually losing power maybe, but I don't think this is a result of the loss of votes, grc and the few seats.

It's more likely that they have been genuinely shocked by the amount of dislike, disdain, disgust and despise from segments of people, particularly from uncensored feedback received via the internet. This is probably the first time and the first elections that such feedback has been received and analysed.

No more emperor's new clothes.

THANK YOU THANK YOU ALJUNIED VOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

You and Hougang people are the most gungho perple. All Singaporeans owe to you.

yah ...reduce Minister's pay...but raise GST to 10%. happy?

they dont know about resentment on the ground? all the grassloot leechers feeding them with rosy pictures. next time they come knocking on the door, slam the door at them regardless of grassloot leechers or mp. vote them out too.

LHL had always wanted to be good, but because mommy was still around as a filial son he wanted to show deference to papa. Now that papa has stepped down, LHL can finally do things in his own way.

It goes to show LHL never really agreed to high ministerial salaries. But he could do nothing when papa was still in Cabinet, as to review or reduce the high ministerial salaries right under the nose of papa would have been gross for papa's face.

In short, we have a repentant PM who has now decided to hang himself on the cross and atone the sins of papa.

I think is the proliferation and the immense power of the new-age social network tools (i.e. Facebook, Internet Forums, Yahoo commentaries, etc ) that unites, amplifies and solidifies the voices of displeasure to concrete hard resentment and anger. It came too fast when they least expected it. And they might have yet recovered from their shocking disbelief that their Intel and senses on ground weren't working that well after all. The first shockwave from epic centre came when PM pulled out their very old tried-and-tested tool of 'threatening' voters with the HDB upgrading carrot during the PM and NTU students meeting session. His as-a-matter-of-fact answer started a spark that spread fast into an unstoppable wild inferno in the internet and other media. This GE is a turing point to see if the inccumbent has what it takes and worth to stay on that job, since they have no carrot and 'threats' to fall back on anymore.

Please stop talking shit. What is the basis for the crap you just spouted? Making excuses for LHL because of his parents? He came into parliament as a young arrogant cunt and grown to become the out of touch head in the clouds person we see today. The whole family is dysfunctional, daughter unmarried, 2nd son broken marriage and refusing to adhere to family tradition, eldest son in a sham marriage... LHL entire reign has been geared to promoting himself on the world stage and hob nob with the global rich and famous... That piece of shit is so insecure, having lived life with no real friends but only sycophants and servants, he measures himself by the number of high powered events he holds.

Adjectives all beginning with 'd'. Probably true.

Yes, agree. It's the feedback and analysis of the feedback from these sources.
I find it hard to believe that the latest actions and decisions are a result of losing one GRC. If they had lost 5 GRCs, maybe, not one.

The emperor has just realised that he's naked and those around him did not dare to tell him the truth for their own reasons.

Dislike, disdain, disgust, despise.
Repentance, resentment, reduction redemption.
You like?

It's not difficult to find words to describe the situation we have got ourselves into.
