sg versions are too mushy and soft. my favorites are the new tung kee sextra fried taro and daikon cakes.

peanuts add crunch but some kids are allergic to them. i like the vinegar sauce. it’s great when you add chili sauce to it. yup, they speak teochew with viet accent.Don’t understand why they have to add peanuts. Also it comes with the weird vinegar dipping sauce. The owners are apparently Chinese who lived in Vietnam for many generations.
in 1969 we’re so backward and poor that getting sweetness and fake sugary goodness out of chow tar kueh with thick black sauce costing only 26.9c (with egg) was a luxury. today can pay $69 for a fanciful snow mooncake with champagne truffle flavor to sextisfy sweet tooth.
Old Bedok market. Halal carrot cake. Nice and deliciousWhere to get the best CTK in sinkeeland ?

most likely run by jiuhukia. it's like chai tow kway or chow tar kueh with penang char kway teow ingredients, especially bean sprouts.Yes, it’s different from the Singapore version but similar enough to satisfy a craving. The closest thing you can get in New York isn’t even like the Singapore version:

No lard to fry how can CTK be good?
nowadays..even non halal also no lard.. famous newton one also no use lard..
Cannot accept CTK without lard. Same for fried kway teow.
Was at east coast food centre looking for fried kway teow.. Googled and found there was a supposedly top 10 fried kway teow stall there. Found the stall and saw a "no lard" sign. Immediately gave it a miss and went to eat pork trotters instead. CTW and fried kway teow= no lard no buy!

because the hawker knows that it is addictive as when you go black you won't go back (to white).
The only black I like are my shoes. Not really, I prefer it white.
