The maximum spending limit of political parties in an election will be raised from S$3.50 to S$4 per voter, the Elections Department (ELD) announced yesterday (Aug 20), adding to the anticipation of the coming General Election, which is widely expected to be held next month.
The increase is to account for inflation, ELD said, adding that the law imposes a ceiling on a candidate’s election expenses to ensure a level playing field.
